With the exception of this photograph, all of these are images of innocuous training exercises where circumstances of chance afforded the photo opportunity.
This is at the scene of a two vehicle accident; a head-on at highway speeds resulting in one fatality and one critical injury. The shot was taken after the deceased was extracted (with jaws of life) from the vehicle on the right, which followed a lengthy investigation by the State Trooper and county Coroner.
At one point, there were 2 ambulances, 2 tow trucks, 3 State Trooper vehicles, Coroner, 2 Sheriff deputies, and 2 Fire Departments responding....and of course some media person with a video camera. Add to this First Responders and potential witnesses and you've got a crowd. I arrived about 6 minutes after the crash, and as this is a rural area, stayed to assist if needed. As the Trooper later said "I'll take all the help I can get!" I was able to lend a hand to the EMTs in helping extract the injured person from the vehicle on the left.
Things had quieted down by the time this shot was taken, but an attempt was made to capture some sense of the chaos.
Thanks Tim, this is just a case of being in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time. I've posted some extra info in this photo's "about" section.
