Hi Doyle,

Thanks again for the info. It may take some more time to get PS Elelments as I need more RAM on my computer... but in time I will get it altogether ...
Thanks for keeping a check on my images !!!

Take Care,
Michele~

Michele:

You need PS or PS elements for the Unsharp Mask . . . I would prioritize that. Besides the tripod, set the delay on the camera so there is no motion shake from pushing the shutter release . . . especially for slow shutter speed and dark subject shoots! You're doing great!

Doyle I <~~~~~

Hi Dave, I don't know about "un-sharp mask"..
I don't use it was the question tho..
Yes, my lens is the same one that came with the camera ... I think it's a pretty good lens but that is just because it's so much better than what I had before.. hmmm I am looking forward to a long and strong zoom lens for really good macro and far away shots but I think that may cost around $1,000 ... so maybe this summer , ha!
I am using PhotoFiltre for post processing but still learning how to use it.. haven't mastered the cloning stamp but I do have one . I didn't intenionally blur anything tho Dave... I was pretty excited and just didn't do a good job on focusing I think...
I do appreciate all of your suggestions and info about the "un-sharp mask".

Much appreciation Dave,
michele~

Michele, lots of comments here about focus... have a question for you. In post-processing, do you use "unsharp mask"? It's almost a necessity in digital.

And I am not an expert on your lens, but if that is the kit lens that came with your camera, it is a cheapy and doesn't shoot clear as a top of the line lens does. Which is another reason you will need post-processing sharpness changes.

I really wish I had bought better lenses myself. the optics from one lens to another is imperative to good photography.

And heck, while I'm ragging on you... did you use some blurring in the background? Might be better to then blur the whole background instead of just portions.... or use a cloning stamp to remove unwanted items. Not sure if your software will do cloning, though.

Dear Robbie,

Thank You for your always helpful comment.
Why can't I just BLINK and be back in Fla. ? Then You could show me some of these tips. I appreciate them and they do help...not always at the moment, but sooner or later. I always remember them. It just
feels like it takes me too long to 'get-it'.
Then I get nervous and don't want to post anything... Sooooooo eventually as I am still taking pictures I just start posting anything just to break the cycle.... and again I try to grow within the cycle ... Sure can't wait for the consistant RESULTS !
Haa!!
Michele~

Nice capture Michele, very good colors and composition.Jan commented on out of focus portion,I don`t know much the D40 but if you use
af-s focus on the closer part, hold the shutter half way down recompose shoot your sharpness will be ok.
Take care
Robbie

Hi Annemette,

Thank You for your kind comment !! I played around in phtotfiltre with this and painted the BG black .I just love these birds they crack me up ! Yes I do wish the focus was much better..sorry about that... Too many birds all around me I found it hard to choose a focus area which was pretty dumb at this stage of me + photography :((
Take Care dear,
Michele~

This photo is such a treat for the eyes, MIchele. All the seagulls gathered on something that looks like black rocks which provides an excellent contrast. I could wish for a tad more clarity, but in general this is a VERY good photo!! It makes me think of images from Antarctica:-) Maybe you also FEEL like it´s Antarctica right with snow and frost haha
Best wishes
Annemette

Oh Jan also I like to think the little guy in the center back is the leader ..hahhaaa!!!!

Michele Carlsen Michele Carlsen   {K:146013} 2/9/2007
You are right Jan... I didn't get my DOF strong enough I guess as the foreground was to be out of focus as it is, and sharper in the very back... these guys were actually in the parking lot and there were many things in the back-ground but I got away with coloring it black !
I also wish I had either used a blk frame or at least put a black rim around the white frame ! But it was all a lot of playing around... Thank You for your comments Jan as they do help me lots !!
Best to you,
Michele~

Jan Hoffman Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 2/9/2007
Michele -- I like the contrast on this one with the crowd of little beggars contrasted to the background and the beach. My only picky point on this one is that it is not as sharp (in focus) as it could be. The beach behind the gulls actually looks sharper (kind of hard to tell but that is the way it looks to me). regardless of this minor point it is very good.
--Best to you, Jan

Michele,

My "Wonderful Lady", this is what Martin sees...

"The Masses of the "Brood"

The "Masterful" use of DOF draws ones eye from the blurred foreground to the sharpened view of the "Head Cock" in the background...

It seems as if he is in total control, even when he is looking from a far...

Well done, Indeed and "My Hat is off to You,

Martin
