About Large voracious crickets(35-40mm). Mainly herbivorous but they often turn cannibalistic and eat the remains of their road-killed kin. They occur (often in great numbers)in the semi-arid South African karroo shrubland where they are commonly known as "karroo prawn". The yellow in the background is the flower of the wild yellow pomegranate (Rhigozum obovatum) - one of its main host plants.

Again, wow! It's a creepy looking bug. You've captured it beautifully, though.

A fantascientific, extraterrestrial monster. Very impressive capture, in a belligerent pose. Excellent the composition cutted in two diagonal areas, yellow and black. What there is more than perfect?
Take care.

The fascinating array of insects, their colours, body armour, size and predelictions is amazing Joggie...:)

When viewing these, you become aware of costume designers, head down, pencil and paper, drawing the latest for the hoards in sci-fi movies... :)

Excellent as always Joggie... *karroo prawn*... Not sure I've been that hungry lol...

I find the close-ups of these creatures equally as disgusting as fascinating. The gory details, the beautiful colors the marvel of it's anatomy. Your insects macros frpm South-Africa are simply outstanding........
