I salute you my friend! I salute you with the whole of my heart for all you've done for the man and for posting this image and for pointing out so strongly how selfish we are as human beings. It's high time that we as society should think what is the purpose of our living in a society if all we do is selfish to the core and our felow human beings are left to this state. I don't know where we are heading for and don't even dare to know!

Ciana,
what a pleasent surprise it is seeing you here and thank you for such a kind remark regarding my street work it is always a comfort knowing that there are those who understand the reasons for my work and I consider you one of them Ciana.
I see you have been working on your portraits, they really have come into their own but then you do have a remarkable gift with children and it shows through your work.
Regards
Hugh

excuse my terrible Spanish but I havent spoken it for over 20 years and what I knew back then could have been written on the back of a postage stamp, My life is about photography and therefore I have my camera with me almost always - recently I have had a slipped disk so have been warned not to carry anything,,,it stops me but just a bit;)

On first view from the thumbnail, i thought it a great street shot, but after reading your story in the about i thought how terrible for this poor soul. How utterly rude of them (the police)!!! To think that they could be so uncaring is just unbelievable..just goes to show how sad this world is getting. how far may he have wandered had you not stopped and helped him out...

Alzheimer's (Gary)
I found out not long after I that there was a large demonstration in Central London the next day on issues relating to alzheimer's (they are stopping the medication for those who suffer with only mild cases of the disease) I think that he may have been trying to get there but turned up a day early. Called the hospital but the didn't seem to know what I was talking about perhaps tomorrow I will have more luck. what is Alzheimers?
Alzheimers is a brain disorder that seriously affects a person?s ability to carry out the simplist of tasks, it affects parts of the brain controlling thought, memory, and verbal communication. not enough is understood about this disease which is why much more reseach is needed. it is thought that around some 5 million Americans suffer from this awful disease it affect those in the age groups of around 65 although the age can be lower in some cases around 30yrs old.
as for the way people just walked past him/ignored him all I can say to this is that we live in selfish times and yet it does not need to be this way - If we see hunger we must if we can offer food, if we see loneliness again if we can should offer comfort, what hope is there if we turn our backs on our own humanity, I for one would not be able to look at myself in the mirror without knowing just how selfish I'd become. No one is asking for Saints or Martyrs but just for some understanding for our fellow beings and cohabiters.

This is simply an amazing example of street photography even without the detailed and sensitive description you have given us. I like the way you've placed him toward the corner of the frame, after all he's hardly central or important in the real world...I note that both other people in the image are either deliberately ignoring him, embarrasment perhaps, or haven't even noticed him, which I somehow doubt. So your photograph speaks volumes about modern society. I sometimes work with Alzheimers patients: his behaviour and speech are consistent with this condition. Thanks for sharing this, Hugh, though it occurs to me that his relatives might not understand the nature of street photography, or appreciate your reasons for posting. Regards, Gary
