About Traditional meal in the family to bring luck for the new year. Marlyce called me to the kitchen when she was rinsing them and Annemette's name came up! LoL! It did remind me very much of the work she did so Happy New 2oo7 to all you UF friends and aquaintances! We'll be eating our peas for all of you who don't do this and you wait and see . . . a better year will come to you!!

This photo is dedicated to Annemette Rosenborg a friend to Marlyce and I who is fearless about experimenting with her photography! Happy New Year to her and to you all! If you eat something traditional for the New Year . . . and it's not black-eyed peas . . . share with us what it is . . . please. :)

Heehee - I made the Texas Cavier and brought it to a New Year's Eve Party.
I got carried away with the Jalapenos. May have added too much. (In my opinion there can never be too much of the hot stuff.) Blew some lips and tongues off on unsuspecting party goers.
Glad to see you are back online.
--Best to you, Jan

That's how i pray for people.
Green to me is the symbol of life, freshness and hope. As long as you stay green, you are alive.
But it's doesn't mean if you are not green you are dead ^_^. my talk is about soul and feelings, not physic.

ok... take care bro... anymore question please

See you soon
All the bests,
Stay Green,
Ardalan.

Thanks Jan . . . good pointer . . . though Marlyce was already on to it . . . especially since your suggested use as a dip makes it more or less required that they be sliced. ;)

OOPS! Omitted note on the black olives that they should be sliced thinly before measuring the needed amount. You can buy them already sliced in the can.

Here is the recipe; there are numerous variations on this out on the Internet but this is the recipe I have used for many years:
Ingredients:
2 ea. 1 pound cans of black-eyed peas, drained
1/2 C olive oil
1/4 C wine vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 C chopped onion
1/4 C chopped bell pepper
1 small jar chopped pimiento, drained
1/4 C black olives, drained
2 ea. jalapeno peppers, minced
1 Tbs. chopped parsley or cilantro
1/2 tsp. salt
freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a covered container. Let stand in refrigerator overnight. Stir occasionally to mix flavors. Keeps well. Serve with chips and crackers or on lettuce leaves. We just use Ritz crackers and large corn chips for the dipping. I also tend to boost the jalapeno a bit more but be careful and mindful of your eating audience.
--Best regards, Jan

Thanks very much Michele. These are actually being rinsed, not cooked! You can see the stream on the upper right quadrant and the air bubbles make it look almost like it is boiling. Oooooh. . . . fine dining at the Casino. Intriguing. Does Oregon allow gambling? California only allows it on Indian Reservations (which are really just Casinos on Indian land . . . though I've never been). Have a Happy New Year!!! :)

Thanks Shirley . . . Marlyce was the one who explained it to me . . . it wasn't one we grew up with (I don't think) though I remember Black-eyed peas in January with cornbread because some food just goes better with snowy weather . . . like salads on hot summer days! Anyway - Happy New Year!

*LOL* Thank you sooooo much, Doyle! What a dedication! I looked at this because I like the band "Black eyed peas" but I never knew what it was in real life so to speak:-)And you eat these erhmm... eyes for New Year´s Eve? A very unique image for me to see. And you talk about ME being fearless when you can eat those??*LOL*
A bobbly image with lots of funny little details.
In Denmark people eat fish for New Year´s Eve, but we´re not so traditional though and went for chicken;-)
Thanks again and happy wishes for you, Marlyce, your son overseas and the rest of the family
Annemette

Great shot and nice dedication. I have a favorite recipe I make every New Year called Texas Cavier (kind of spicey) based on black eyed peas. It is a good luck tradition for us.
