About One of the best butcher's shops on the main street (Souika) in the medina of Rabat. As with most of the shops here, the same guy has been running it for years.

I'll save you from the shot of the shop next door - he just sells heads and hooves...

Hi Doyle! Sorry for the recent silence - I've been travelling again.

Many thanks for the constructive comment - as always much appreciated. This was taken on the same day as "The Carpet Sellers" when I chose to carry only the Casio in order to remain discrete.

"Medina" literally means "city" in Arabic, but many towns in Morocco and throughout North Africa and the Middle East have what is referred to as a medina. This is generally the old part of town that includes the souks and original residential areas, often surrounded by a defensive wall. But there is indeed a city named Medina in Saudi Arabia, the holiest city in Islam after Makkah. Neither town is open to non-muslims.

Incidentally, there appear to be several towns called Medina in the US also...

I like it John . . . and i like it a lot. Pauls adjustments did, to my eye, result in some improved depth to the image and I would look into midtone contrast along with the lighten shadows . . . but this is one interesting shot!!! (No Nikon with you . . . Hmmmmm . . . )

I AM curious about the phrase 'medina of Rabat'. Isn't Medina a holy town in its own right? Perhaps there's another meaning? Or several Medinas? If it's the holy one . . . can we assume you are Islamic as well . . . I'm under the impression that with the number of pilgrims traveling there, non-muslims are not permitted.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Ah, the deep reds and purples of fresh meat, and then there's...the HACKSAW.

this is a nice shot, which might be helped by lightening the shadows just a bit and then boosting the contrast a tad (like this):

Thanks Jan. I'll put some info in the "about". This is a shop.

I felt it would have helped the composition if the butcher had been a little further to the left, but the circumstances (and discrete shooting) did not oblige...

AJ -- Love this shot for the splashes of color; excellent composition. Is this a butcher shop or place where they serve prepared food?
