I love this boy's eyes and general expression, he is so authentic, his face is incredible standing out of the black space behind him, reminds me of some old movies. I would only cropped down the right side to leave him in the wooden frame, no, it is not a good idea. I don't know but I'm not sure about the frame, this empty space distract me a bit...pherhaps this is what you wanted to achieve. Regards

Hello Kes!
After a long time, I am back! Missed a lot your creative think and let's say different images. I believe your sons have a lot of fun with your clicks.
This one is great and different. Tones and light are fabulous. Well done!
Have a blessed new year, my friend!

Do you have him in the dog house?? You can tell by his hands that he is rather tense in this situation.

Hi Andre,
Thanks for your most thoughtful comment! Regarding your question on his hands, the sleeves of the shirt were too long and covering his hands...and I had just told him that they needed to be seen. He was holding them open to keep the sleeves up!
It was luck to get a serious expression from him on this day...the previous shot had that hint of an impish grin...it could have went the other way very easily!

Thanks Green! I'm not sure why I left the door out. Probably a mistake (in a hurry), or an object to the left that would detract, or trying to keep some darkness on the right without centering the subject. Tension! That's it, I wanted to create tension in the shot!!! Good to have a plan, lol! Kes

Hi Kes,
There are so many things that I like about this one, and not a thing that I would honestly like to see changed.
First of all I really like the way that you set the scene up with a beautiful B&W woodgrain. You caught him with just the right amount of light to create that coming out of the shadows "mystery/dream" look, that you have used in some of your other images with the kids. The choice of perspective with that short-legged look works well for this dream-like image as well. The nice light and contrast around the top of his shirt and face draws us into the intense stare. There is one more little feature that gets some added attention.... the position and shape of his left hand and arm. I'm not sure if he is holding anything or not. Anyway, I think the shape of his left arm and hand add some tension to an already tense image. Great job on this one Kes! Andre

Such a serious expression for a child, almost creepy or emotionless even. It is a great shot. I think that I can learn some things from you. Great work. One question, why not get the entire door frame into the frame?

Hi Paul! I make him go out at night and gather wood for the fires, lol...
Just grabbed the title from the photo's time stamp, which was actually 3:31pm. "am" goes better with the "your dreams miss you" concept I was thinking about. Cheers, kes

Super portrait Kes. I really like the B/W contrast and the details came out nicely in the wood surrounding the boy. It almost has an eerie feeling to it. The lighting and shadows add to the mood. Congrats, Chris
