Marcus, I really like this image, so I've given you an SC. Hooded Mergansers are among my favorite duck species. Best wishes, and keep shooting!

Hi Marcus, When Merganssers stop by here in the spring, they are also very shy and won't let you get close at all. Later on at the cottage, they let us get a bit closer. You got this guy showing off his colours well! Andre

Thanks Hugo, some of these migrant bird are a bit strange looking but always fun to shoot, you should see this guy sitting still, wheather or not you shoot birds is a moot point, I know a good landscape cityscape from a bad one, and can pick yours out without looking at the name, I guess what im saying is you dont have to shoot them to know what they should look like technically, I am soo happy you bypassed my cityscape attempt

Hi Marcus,
Pretty amazing this duck can fly - the wings look so small! Nice definition in it's bdy, and the dropps falling off the feather coat add to this shot. I'd say the position of the wings are not ideal for an illustrative photo, yet the full frontal image, almost 2D is quite exceptional as well as unusual, and that's what I like about it.
With all respect to the duck - it seems so disproportioned, with the rather meagre body and the large bulky head and its small wings. Peculiar, but very interesting!
Cheers,
Hugo
PS - I've had a go at capturing flying birds, and despite my critiques I may have, your images are and remain unrivalled...:)

Lovely Marcus - judged by the short wings (almost funny) this is probably not a very strong flyer. Great image though as usual! Joggie

Yessss ... this is definitely a "decisive moment". I like it, also for the expression of the subject. Equlibrated tones and "direct" composition :) Very good.
