About Last night Marlyce and I were treated to our granddaughter Cydney's Dance recital (her first) held at the Community Theatre. It was wonderful. No flash photography limited my options . . . but you know a committed photographer (or one who SHOULD BE COMMITTED) . . . will still have something to work with!

Low colored lights and Dancing . . . Hmmmmm . . . Back to the blurry Project! Here, Cydney's friend and classmate leads (with a striped shirt) as the dancers exit . . . stage right!!

Absolutely NO PS work or cropping of any kind . . . other than adding the frame and text. :)

Impressive concept shooting at 3200!! How do you clean it up and keep the focal clarity. I have serious issues for the most part at 1000 and above . . . depending on the light, color, comp and who knows what settings. Usually . . . it's a problem . . . on a rare ocassion it isn't. But fix it? Never been able to do that!

Hi Doyle, I like this shot from your series because it conveys the smooth flowing movements of a ballet without actually showing the children... There is rhythm and line that makes this a very good composition, lighting is excellent as well. Well done! I see you shot this at 1600 ISO, I've gotten over the noise and shoot 3200 as needed and I just "clean it" after...

Appreciate the comment . . . and yes, I'm quite a dilletante . . . (as opposed to the usual use of the term meaning superficial . . . I use the term to refer to me being good at many things . . . but master of none!) Thanks very much for spending the time to look through my PF and even more thanks for taking the time to comment!

This was a great shot to return with my dear Doyle and taken under very awkward conditions, but you have to have a go in these situations. There are NO problems, only situations and opportunities:) . I love the effects my friend and there is no doubt as to the direction the dancers are taking.....Wonderful effects and glorious tones, well done to you Doyle. My very best wishes to you as always......Ray:)

Hi Doyle, you have a varied PF (which I like to see in a photographer) you have many shots worthy of comment, but I picked this one, mainly for it's artistic value. The tiny pieces that remain unmoved coupled with the energy of the children's movement, and bright colours gives it that creative feel. I think having the movement from the light area into the dark (intentional or not) lifts the photo, separating the components (children), but at the same time, combining them to create a harmonious event. Nice work.

regards
John

Wild abstract Doyle !!! I gotta rate you a 7++ for this entire series ... You did very well under all conditions and the subjects are just too full of e-motion ! I can certainly tell that by this exit ..hahaaa!!! A heartwarming image , each and everyone of them !!!
So glad to have you back ...now we just need Marlyce !

Taking over 400 shots I hope you still got to enjoy the perforance of your granddaughter. I find that sometimes being the photographer you're there to see everything, but you also miss a lot cause you are to busy trying to focus on the picture taking.

Great colors and the bluriness of the image gives a sense of the movement of the dance.

LoL! Five children and six grandchildren! Where do you think I acquired this stunning sense of humor??

In my experience, the grain is incidental in these shots . . . I don't always (but usually) get it . . . but ANY work seems to add banding or noise . . . so I avoid anything but cropping, though it wasn't even needed here! Thanks for commenting!

Dear Doyle or should I say California Kid?
You should have been up on that stage with that nickname;)
A great motionimage that makes the cuties seem like they´re little angels flying in the air. The colours are awesome.
Take care and good to see you back!

Hi AJ!
Yes . . . I hate pushing to 1600 . . . you'll see the 640-900 ISO on the other shots but I have little choice in some situations. Don't care for it in any event and the metering and test shots I did prior to the show ("removed self-reference due to filter" that I am) were rendered useless in the first few seconds when they dimmed the lights. Then the rolling light show - various colors and spots . . . eh, what can you do?

The 200mm Did make for some fine opera glasses but my last upload was only 80mm, so we had some good seats. The effect and feel of motion from this shot . . . and the ethereal nature of it caught my eye immediately. Appreciate the comment . . . and glad to be back to posting yet again. It's been far too long!

Doyle I <~~~~~

AJ Miller AJ Miller   {K:49168} 11/17/2006
In your comment to Ali you say you took over 400 shots. So I guess you actually watched the whole show through your lens. Well, I guess a 200mm makes fine "opera glasses"!

I think it's a lovely effect you have achieved here, with a great sense of movement and just enough detail to catch what was going on. Nice colours as well...

Great to see no noise at ISO 1600 - I'm still trying to avoid pushing that high, but maybe I shouldn't worry.

Thanks Ali . . . Took over 400 shots trying to get some really good ones under very difficult lighting conditions . . . and restrictions. Still . . . I was happy with enough of them and I thoroughly enjoyed the show anyway! Since the speed of some dances vary from motionless to very fast and was unpredictable . . . and the shutter speed needed to be slow due to the low (and changing) light . . . I was at the mercy of pure luck many times. Appreciate the very kind comment!
