Jon, I've passed by your portfolio many times, each time I find more impressive work and can't help but to notice the improvement in your style and work,
This one is definitely a winner, Never got to see Notre dame photographed from low angle this way, you certainly done a great job in here and the details reserved it for sure outstanding,
This is a very well deserved award.
I've won a prize in UF as well shooting the same Church, I think it brings good luck :)
Very well done and keep up the good work,
Regards,

My warmest thanks to everyone who commented on this image. I am quite overcome by all the nice remarks! Of course honesty forces me to point out that someone else actually designed and built the church - my contribution was to put my camera on the floor and open the lense up wide :-}

Take care, all,

Jon

"tilted left of plumb", he says. Here now.. the camera was sitting on the (level) floor. So I'm thinking it might be Jimbo after a few cold frothy ones who is just seeing a bit left of plumb :-]

Thanks, eh...

Absolutely superb... The reflection, on what I gather is either polished marble or granite floor is brilliant, almost a mirror...

The light is *divine* :) ... showing us such a richness of colour... Perspective does indeed give a real sense of size of this most beautiful place of worship...

Huge congratulations on your award... Well deserved...

Congratulations on your award, as you have obviously captured an image that not only encompasses Magic Light, Reflections, as well as a unique Perspective in this photo.

This is very well done, a rated 7, and a favorite.

Hi Jon,
I go away for a day and come back to see two people in my "friends" box with BIPs and both with images of different parts of Canada!!
Congrats for the award for this beatiful depiction of the interior of Notre Dame in Montreal. This one has a really powerful perspective, great feeling to the reflection and I love the detail in the whole image.
Great job Jon!

Wow! excellent shot! It's likely you would not have considered going this low if you had a tripod with you Jon so, maybe, all for the best! This is marvellous.

Thanks, Arda - the only post-processing done on this was a bit of sharpening after I resized, so the colours are pretty much as they were (white balance set to "automatic"). I set the camera down on the floor and shot with it set on timer so that I didn't have to try the shot with flash.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi, Dave - I just whistled for everyone's attention and called out "Hey! I'm trying to take a bloody photograph here!" Works ever time... LOL... it was mid-afternoon on a Tuesday in October, so perhaps a bit quieter than normal! People coming up the aisle behind me most kindly waited a moment while I made the photo. But note to self: buy a monopod!

A beautiful shot of the cathedral, Jon! I like your perspective and capture of the reflection in the floor, very imaginative and well executed. You've got spectacular colour here as well! How did you manage this with no people around? I've got a shot of the cathedral in my portfolio as well, but it was during a very busy tour season.
Dave.
