Nice tight crop, Dave! The guitar forms a neat diagonal and intersects with the cymbal. This seems to provide a good visual foundation for jumping to the musician's concentrated expression!

A good element here is the angle of the quitar that makes it shining on the light, that makes the object being supported into the darker parts of the photo, good portrait Dave.

Hi Bill, thanks for the comment! I usually desaturate the image in the editing program, and then adjust curves for contrast and brightness to get the tones I want. There is also an option to just convert to b/w, and it has various filter effects you can use to get different degrees of b/w toning, comparable to camera filters you would use in b/w photography. It depends on the image which way I go with this. BTW, I am using Corel Paintshop Pro XI for the editing. Hope this helps!

Hi Bruce, thanks for the comment! No, this was a different band altogether. Ernie performs with a guitar player alone, while this fellow was part of an ensemble of players.
