About PLEASE take the time to read:

This may be a bit more disturbing than my past children's photos... but this on behalf of children trafficked around the world, and Love146 who is fighting to end it. I think it's important to get the truth out about what is going on in our world... because "The more you learn about how the most innocent and vulnerable among us are savaged by these crimes, the more impossible it becomes to look the other way." (Colin Powell, Former US Sec. of State)

Here are some statistics for you to think about:

It is estimated that two children per minute are trafficked for sexual exploitation

Up to 50% of people trafficked are children

It is estimated that at least 27 million people are currently enslaved around the world , many who have been enslaved through being trafficked. This is more than double the number of Africans enslaved during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

In 2006, the profits from human trafficking will surpass that of the sale of illegal arms. These profits will be second only to the trafficking of drugs. (Europol estimate).

Human trafficking generates between 10 and 12 billion dollars a year for organized crime (UNICEF estimate).

1.2 million children are trafficked annually

If you're living in USA like me, you may think, like I did that this country didn't have much if anything to do with those statistics... then I found out that Up to 17.5 million people are trafficked into the US a year! In fact, one of the largest human trafficking rings (in this case not just children being trafficked but women) uncovered in the United States (according to federal authorities) was uncovered right in my town, as well as some others supposedly peaceful towns close by me.

As Yehuda Bauer said... "Thou shalt not be a victim. Thou shalt not be a perpetrator. Above all, thou shalt not be a bystander" Please don't be a bystander... visit www.love146.org to see how you can help, not only through prayers but through actions too.

"I was in that brothel for 3 years and for two of them I never saw the sun. They never let me out. I was in a little room and there was no window." Child Sex Trafficking Survivor

Thanks for taking the time to read this :)

Dear Rachel,

I was wondering in your portfolio for the past 15 minutes when I came across to this special picture. First, I thought that was excessively Photoshop'ed, yet after reading your missionary text, I came to believe the shot has a strong link with the abolitionism, reflecting your thoughts and feelings perfectly.

Photography is sometimes perceived as an art, in the sense of a pursuit of aesthetic forms. Sometimes it is perceived as a reflection of real life. But more than that, it is sometimes a vehicle with which we express our thoughts, how we perceive our surroundings, by framing just a minor part of it, among some 3 million images our eyes process each day.

In that respect, you did a wonderful job.

Congratulations Dear Rachel.

Hi Rachel,

Although this is a more than sad issue, you did a wonderfull mission here. It must be hard for you as young woman dealing with a these terrible facts and stories. I believe you have a very strong and nice personality.
I wish you all the power of the world on your mission. You do great work.
To the image, it is very impressive with extreme high impact. Perfect idea and excellent realisation. Go on with both your good works, caring about people and photography.

Wish you and yours all the best,
Albert Jacobs :)

Awesome capture Rachel ~ it's sad but true that even in the 'civilized' 21st century this horrific practice still exists ~ thanks for keeping it to the forefront with such a strong message ~ and hug those little ones around you ~ it won't help the others but maybe somehow will tip the balance between good and evil!
best to you, susie

It never ceases to amaze me either. I am a black and white photographer but this one begs for color and gets a great deal more three dimensional to it in color.

Of course we get to hear about this awful trade in human misery and the news at times seems continuously full of underage victims. I would wish for far harsher punishments for people caught in this trade and even harsher for their customers for without them there would be no trade.

Your about contains so much sadness my dear Rachel and so many startling facts that it would wrong of us to bury our heads in the sand. Bless you for creating this greater awareness.

Your composition takes on an entirely new meaning after reading the above. It is great shot and so very apt to be shown alongside the main message. Well done to you my dear. All the ver best.....Ray

It makes horrific reading ..you just can,t imagine it happening..the problem is if you don,t know of anyone effected like this you assume that very little goes on if any ,perhaps the odd case in the media ..these poor children ..they will never know a happy loving home and will only see adults as monsters ..your picture with the reflection of the adult in the eyes and the fear say.s it all..nessa 7/7

It is not amazing but shocking fact, very sadly that
such incident exist. I'm very angry and sad in one
when I'm hearing same case. The modern man already
too bore and inert it is factm sadly fact. We can
stop this crime for kids, we need fight for the without violence life. Thanks for your share dear Rachel,
and I wish you more energie for the fight!

Have a nice day
Robert

ps: The composition is very expressive and well illustrate your fight. Well taken shot.

Amazing statistics, but sadly true. This is a very moveing picture Rachel, and very apropriate for your 'about'. It is unnerving as a mother of two young children to know that the trafficking of children into the sex industry and trade occurs, as my children are the most precious things in my world. What is the most disturbing is that these children are being robbed of their innocence and choices, with no power to change the fact.
Your good work as an abolitionist will not go unoticed by the few children you are able to help.

On a technical note, the dark reflections of the stranger in the eyes of this child really help brimng home your message in this photo.
excellent, passionate work,
Bek
