About The fourth in my b/w series of Apes from the San Diego Wild Life Park.

The oldest male would walk around, and just stop cold in his tracks to watch what's going on. Just his pose, solid and still, with only his eyes moving... freaks you out a bit. After all, he's the dude in there with his family, and i'm pointing a gigantic lens at him.

It was so striking to see him emerge from his shadow, and sit there with the sun at his back, and in your eyes.

I waited for him to turn into the sun a bit, as all I was seeing was a rim of light around him.. just as he turned to head back into the shadows, I grabbed this image.

oh... she'll wait! That's the good thing! ..it's knowing that she's watching me make mistakes (and learn them with out saying anything) that's the hard part. :)

Oh no! You need someone who is going to have patience with you while you wait or set up for shots.

Love the back-lighting and how you extended the exposure/grey tone range. Good capture!

Thank you Ron!

It's luck my friend. ..and convoncing your wife that you want to spend 10 more minutes waiting for an Ape to get the f' out of the damn shadow.

..and a polarizing filter, a few glasses of wine, and about 45min photoshop moving color curves around so get a good b/w conversion.

bored out of my skull too... on vacation for 4 more weeks. it's like freakin detox.

cheers,
-Joel

Nice character lines in this old ape. Lighting is nice from behind. I find it very difficult to get good shots at the zoo when the sun is strong and the animal is partly in and partly out. You can teach me how. Regards Ron.
