Hi Rich,
Thanks for you kind words.
This coming Saturday I am planning to get there around 7:00-7:30. If you own a kayak, I recommend you to get there right after sunrise, so you can take full advantage of the Golden Hour, other wise, Kayak Connection and Monterey Bay open at 9:00 AM. Also, don't forget to visit Moss Landing Beach (MLB).
Early morning the pelicans, grebes, cormorants and more come very close to the small bridge on the entrance.
Your 300 F/4 should be perfect for the slough and the MLB. And just to prevent any damage to your equipment, get a dry bag for the camera and lens.
