About The last of my "gee, I sure do like those Blue Angels" pictures! I promise, I'll go back to less guy toy images now. ;) Just can't resist when those damn planes are in the air.

This was from Thursday when the clouds broke to let some sun shine on the planes. The Blue Angels were spotting their runs for the weekend, every once in a while, they would circle back hard to re-group with the others. This one was banking hard against the clouds that framed the bay so perfectly for about 15 minutes on Thursday.

I felt this looked more dramatic today when I looked at it a few days later, and felt like sending up to usefilm to get some comments from you all.
Yeah...it's just your average plane against sky, but I tried to frame and crop with a little more interest and power in mind.

Doyle,

Thanks so much! To be honest, I had a difficult time witht he crop on this one. I kept going back to balance on the balance on the clouds against the motion of the plane, and went for an almost off center with the jet. (i'm still learning...I hope it never ends!).

Your crop is dead on, and so right. I think I had it like that a few times, and fought with the feeling of a solo jet too much.

Thank you so much for the help, and comments!

cheers,
-Joel

Good capture with that dramatic backdrop Joel . . . very good. Love these guys (and the A.F. Thunderbirds) and wouldn't you know I'd miss fleet week on our recent trip? It's awful nice of these guys to paint their jets with such easily photographed colors . . .

One little point . . . for you to consider . . . I think a more dynamic crop would have done well for you by pulling this guy out of the central area . . . (I attached an example) and more along the rule of thirds lines. Since the motion is towards the right and cloud definition is upper right . . . the only realistic places to close in the crop would be the bottom and left side. Just a thought for you to consider. Overall . . . a good shot indeed.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Thank you so much Shirley!

It's tough to get a picture of a plane, and not have it look average.. think I shot about 300 images around this one, and threw 299 away. :)

cheers,
-Joel

Yep. My biggest thrill was hanging on the straps at the top of a slow roll--in an open cockpit! You don't get THAT in a sardine can.

Thank you Paul,

As a pilot as well, I can't even do what they do on my flight simulator. Such amazing control. They the finest representation of stick and throttle flying on the planet. Just watching them fly over our building at work for 4 days, you come to appreciate their job. What was great about when I took this image, is that it was on Thursday, and they were just spotting the SF Bay for where they would fly, so they were constantly re-grouping, and testing the space. So amazing.

thanks again!

cheers,
-Joel

One of the most amazing things to witness is how adeptly they RE form into position. As a pilot, it's inconcievable to me how solo man can come closing in on the formation, and at the last second, wiggle the bird to dump airspeed and just fall into place.

Nice shot of solo with great puffy cu behind him, Joel.

It's simply beautiful. My experiences of flight apart from commercial jets as a passenger have been de Haviland Tiger Moths (a biplane) and a powered Paraplane (ultralight). Rather different (this is known as typical British understatement) although I did fly through the aerobatic book from one end to the other in Tiger Moths.

Great shot Joel, love the trails of mist surrounding the plane and the timing is perfect, showing off the plane perfectly. Those clouds are a great backdrop as well - much more dramatic than the usual blue skies.

Not much PS at all.. just a few contrast curves on the colors, and some saturation. (I try and keep my day job out of my weekend fun) :)

Just love these planes.

thanks for the comments pops!

As an ooher amd ahher over plane photos I am glad you decided to put this one up. Did you do much to it in PS or is this pretty much as shot? Like it much.
