About A series of three shots working on the best way to display the San Francisco Skyline . . . Sepia, B&W, and full color. Shot from a window 52 stories above the city . . . and incorporating some helpful suggestions from Sam Graziano III . . .

I'm interested in knowing which works best . . . #2 and #3 are the same shots, with and without color (adjusting midtones, light and contrast as needed -- of course) . . . #1 is a different shot . . . entirely.

View from the Carnelian Room in the Bank of America Building.

No . . . I'm kinda' with you on that one John . . . the Sepia seems good for getting the aged look to a shot like http://www.usefilm.com/image/1185800.html which had, as it's goal . . . an aged look. But in this case the Sepia version seems to have my vote. I think it's a TAD bit unfair in that it is a different shot with a slightly different POV and therefore may not be on a level playing field. The Sepia in B&W might be better than this in B&W . . . if you get my meaning. Anyway, thanks for the vote (for B&W) and comment . . .

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

I like this colour too- there is something clean and more timeless about it.

Wow . . . La Sierra . . . only a million years ago! LoL~! The Fushia has a critique from me and it actually works . . . an exception to the centrality "rule" . . . but could be better . . . Thanks yourself for the constant support . . . makes me feel very good! :)

This one gets my vote, Doyle. Why? Cos the scene is more about shapes and forms than colours. I find this version better emphasises the buidings and windows and ships and... (OK, let's not get carried away). Then again, the shapes and forms are even more pronounced in your sepia version, although in general I'm not a sepia fan. (You probably guessed that, and I suppose I should add that to my "to be convinced" list.)

Hi Doyle,

This is interesting ...kind of like a test with color and blk, & wht. ... I like it too.

Thank you for your generous support about my work getting better... Nope..I've no 'New Tutor' ... when you've got the Best why would you change ... altho I do admit the wait does get a bit loooooong as the King of Cool has more mail , and work to do of his own....

Anything I've done better is from practicing what you've taught me...and in saying THAT ...I realized I'd centered my 'Fuccia' image ....which I know better than to do..... you've reminded me a zillion ways and times... I got it now...!!!!! Off-center...
Also thank you for the blk and wht. adjustment information ... and mostly Doyle I do appreciate your time.... You old 'La Sierra HS. Grad! '

Michele~

Thanks Michele . . . exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get . . . And you're quite right . . . they evoke very different responses in the viewer . . . I've been noticing that your work has become so much better lately . . . a new tutor, perhaps?? If you should use B&W in the future . . . I should point out that contrast and midtones MUST be adjusted after conversion . . . never before conversion . . . and they MUST be adjusted. :)

Thanks Mike . . . I very much appreciate the feedback. Sam had mentioned exactly the same thing when we discussed this composition . . . too much detail might tend to drown out the overall impact of the composition. Appreciate the feedback very much!

Wow! Amazing how color and blk and wht. can make such a world of difference but they do ! Just my opinion .... but still choose #3...altho if there were no color I would be choosing the serpia , ( even tho it is NOT the exact same image) BUT I still see this is an excellent image my friend,
Very good work...
Michele~

Personally this is my favorite.
I like how the B/W really shows the contrast.
With the color, I think its a little harder to see all the detail of this fantastic shot.....
