About After a long weekend out on the Lake District hills i was not having any luck with the photography and then on my way home i saw this, the rain clouds were gradually moving in and blocking out all the light but for just 5 minutes the setting sun broke through and it looked like the hills beyond Rydal Water were actually on fire!

Rydal Water is only a small lake at about .75 miles long by .25 miles wide, and maximum depth of 55 feet, its situated between the villages of Ambleside and Grasmere.

The area is made famous by romantic poets such as William Wordsworth.

Thanks for looking.

Pay dirt! It was definitely worth the stop. Seems that’s the way it goes. Mother Nature tests the photographer’s mettle by showing us her best after we’ve stowed our gear away. Sun light reflection in the lake looks a little hot. Nice use of foreground elements to add depth – just the right amount. This is a very pleasing image. Well done, and congratulations on the BIP!

Regards,
-Mike.

Excellent capture, Neil.

Really good detail in the trees. I also like the sky: The dark, moody clouds along with the bright, exciting sunlit clouds near the center. Add the mist moving in on the right and a fairly clear reflection, and it all adds up to a great photo. Congrats.

Jason.
