Hi Robert -
The tones here are fabulous! I can't put my finger on what it is, but there is something that makes him have great clarity (for lack of a better term) here. Perhaps it is something to do with your post processing.
I should really study up on photography so that I know what I am seeing! Perhaps my photography illiteracy is my bliss?
 :)
