Of return of one exposure to the European house of photography in Paris, I returned quietly by subway towards my workshop and there! at the station "Alexandre Dumas"! Tags poked my curiosity...
Usually I do not make a photograph of tags because it do not make me an effect but this time something really challenged me in the quasi obsessional rigour of the repetition of the words (I let to you read in the details). I felt like a "Larsen effect" of communication, an anomaly and a suffering in the repetition similar to an autistic expression! This emotion first, this initial feeling, I wanted to restore it, reinforce it with a work on the basic photograph.I thus wanted to work in my initial direct feeling: the repetition, the at the same time strange and unpleasant effect of "Larsen". I wanted to support the strangeness of these tags by a strong rectification of prospects and this forced alignment. Moreover I reinforced hang them luminous by the contrast of the whole of the photograph to accentuate the geometries with repetitions like the paving stones enamels some, the electrical equipment boxes and multiple lightings...
I initially wanted to call this photo "Punishment!" for the suffering and the with dimensions school one: "you will copy it to me hundred times..." But finally "Larsens! "contains also these aspects but with this" uncontrolled drift "near to the madness which I clearly felt in these" tags "
De retour d’une exposition à la maison européenne de la photographie à Paris, je rentrais tranquillement en métro vers mon atelier et là ! à la station "Alexandre Dumas" ! Des tags ont attisés ma curiosité…
Habituellement je ne fais pas de photo de tags car il ne me font pas d’effet mais cette fois-ci quelque chose m’a vraiment interpellé dans la rigueur quasi obsessionnelle de la répétition des mots ( je vous laisse lire dans le détails ). J’ai ressenti comme un « effet Larsen » de communication, une anomalie et une souffrance dans la répétition semblable à une expression autistique ! Cette émotion première, cette sensation initiale, j’ai voulu la restituer, la renforcer avec un travail sur la photo de base. J’ai donc voulu travailler dans ma sensation directrice initiale : la répétition, l’effet à la fois étrange et désagréable d’un « Larsen ». J’ai voulu soutenir l’étrangeté de ces tags par un fort redressement de perspectives et cet alignement forcé. De plus j’ai renforcé les accroches lumineuses par le contraste de l’ensemble de la photo pour accentuer les géométries à répétitions comme les pavés en émaille, les armoires électriques et les éclairages multiples…
J’ai d’abord voulu appeler cette photo « Punition !» pour la souffrance et le coté scolaire : « tu me le copieras cent fois… » Mais finalement « Larsens ! » contient aussi ces aspects mais avec cette « dérive incontrôlée » proche de la folie que j’ai clairement ressentie dans ces « tags »
Elle est vraiment tres belle celle la et le titre est bien choisi. Je trouve que le decalé entre les deux panneaux lui donne de la force en plus.. Bravo.
Larsens means when microphone make a big noise when is too much near phone ! BIIIIIIIPPPPPP very hight frequence : you know ? That mean the same think in the head of this writer man who become mad...repetitives like a child punition !
I found your words most fascinating...it would help if I knew what 'Larsens' refers to... The photo itself does have more interest and meaning for me because of your words. Some of the writing is definitely obsessive! The photo is good.:)
