You articulated what I was trying to say, so thank you. I could play around in paint shop pro and see what I come up with. The sepia tool in psp is poor though. I could edit photos in my nikon to sepia and they turned out great, but I tend to dislike the tones that program creates.

Thanks Carlen! I agree and got lucky with the posture . . . it was shot from a distance but the crop was a clear choice and I agree -- it's amazing . . . though also a tad bit of luck. Not sure about the sepia tones and since I'm not at home I can't really check it now but, then again, the brown on the dalmation is "sepia-sque" already (I KNOW it . . . I just made that word up). A quick look at the picture desaturated and I think I get the idea of what you were seeing though. The suit showing and silver chain seem to be reminescent of a earlier era of bygone days and, you're right, the best way to echo that era is through sepia toned shots to add the feel of the image to the presentation of the image. Frankly the shot could have been made in 1904 or today . . . it's a bit timeless because the fashion changes for men were not as rapid and the men's cuffs even less of an issue. Thanks for the comments . . . I love when you make me think.....now to go home and check out the sepia later!

To me the composition is what stands out in this photo. For some reason it sends me back in time in my mind. I want to apply some sepia to this photo, I think it would look nice...

Thanks Marcus . . . at least you of all people know how annoying a telephoto shot is when the animal MOVES without warning and ruins your shot. Of course . . . If I can't do a dog I guess birds would NEVER happen! ;) I appreciate the comment, of course.

Thanks so much Shirley . . . you're very kind!! The hands . . . and arms . . . seem to make for a good flow for the eye of the viewer to be drawn into the seen (To the dalmation's eye) and was a major reason for the crop I chose. Apparently it was successful since it's now been mentioned at least three times! I'm glad you enjoyed this!

A fine looking Dalmatian. He seems intent on the master. I suppose the guy had a treat for him. The placement of the hands and arms act as a great lead to the dog's head. Good work Doyle!

Another fine image. Great expression. What i like if the flow inside the image: from the gentlemans arm and hand, via the dogs ear to the essential part, the eyes.

Thanks Jan . . . and I agree . . . tail and ear cropping are sensitive and volatile subjects by people who are strongly for and strongly against them. My intention was to take no stand either way . . . just display the photos and re-affirm my support for the pooches who all give soooo much to us! Since it's not a proper forum for that discussion . . . we'll agree to enjoy the pictures and everyone can tell me how to make them better ;)

Hello Doyle! A lovely dalmatianportrait from the dogshow. Beautiful look in the eyes that seem to follow the handler so closely. When showing dogs they do learn to follow each move you make being attentive to movements and little words. When there´s a special bond between the handler and the dog it really presents itself much better than if being showed by a stranger. Now I babble as your photo brings back so many memories:-) Best wishes, Annemette
