I saw this when I came back from vacation but didn't get to comment. I'm glad you've won an award for this one because it's simply stunning. You've captured a beautiful moment showing the bond between mother and daughter. To me the photo seems relaxed, not posed at all. (not sure if it was)

Good maintenance of detail in both the dark and light areas, indicating well thought out exposure.
Well chosen DOF causing separation of the foreground without loosing too much in the background, which would have made this scene far less strong than it is.

I can write for an hour about this wonderful capture Shirley,
I like the Details, The way you are showing the facial details in spite having very sunny area at the back. I like position and the way they are looking at eachother, the trees in the background, converting it to B&W.
