About Meanwhile, back in the garden. This is another one in my "My Wife's Black Jacket" series. Only with the heat we've been having there's not a chance that the old faithful black jacket would be handy. But never fear, I just happened to have a hunk of black velvet handy and my wife held it up for this shot. This was taken late in the afternoon and I really liked the light.

The title Praying Hands is my current working title because it seems to be a very popular black velvet painting (after Elvis) but I am open to other suggestions (the sillier the better :-)

Actual exposure f/2.7 @ 1/200 from EXIF.

Hi Jon,
Very beautiful shot. The black bg really makes the mostly white flower pop. My wife also is the gardener in our family. Of course all our opportunities to shot plants are indoors this time of year.

The light is great and the isolation by the dark background is effective. The blooms seem to leap out due to the wide angle perspective.

I wish I had thought of employing my wife in this manner Jim....what a wonderful idea to create a great background.
I love this shot of these lillies, you have captured great detail in them and the colour tones are really beautiful. I have just read your bio and thank goodness for our lovely wives and their busy green fingers:):) Well done to you Jim, a most delightful floral study. Best wishes to you.....Ray

Very nice Jim!
I like florals like this with a black background. The choice of background really makes the blooms pop out of the screen.

Wow Jim, it turned out very nice, the velvet is great for backgrounds, funny thing, I use it too and had that same thought about Elvis paintings, good minds think alike!

Very nice Jim, I like it too. From an abstract point of view, I think I can see a Praying Mantis which could be an alternative title. You sure are lucky you can get your wife to assist you, I have to really work hard to get my wife to assist me with anything of a photographic nature. Best I can get, is here to pose for test shots. (LOL).
