About Class Project: Above Your Head

Four ground strikes within seconds of each other over the city of Phoenix.

I imagine that the variations of color in the lightning itself is caused by natural gases such as ozone and electricity.

Gosh, thanks Jacob! This was taken two nights earlier than the rest (I'm guessing this might have had something to do with the colors as well). The sharpness could also have been due to atmopheric conditions. The camera's settings are virtually the same for all the shots with regard to f/stop and focus (f/22 @ infinity). The only real variable was the shutter speed. This one is also darker than the others (shorter shutter speed) so, the sharpness may be due to a higher contrast between the darks and lights.
The latter storms had lower clouds as well as haze which could also contribute to their "fuzziness."
Thanks very much for the kind comments.
~ Warm regards,
Rocky

you're probably right on the color variations...I think I prefer this out of your other lightning photos.

Reall well composed and your focus is spot on...mmakes that lightning look razor sharp!

Well done, and keep up the great work! :-D
