Giuseppe, sometimes I leave the grey tones off when I saturate in the LCH editor. I think the results are better when there are a lot of greys. You could try converting to your monitor profile generated by the Spyder Pro. It will have a distinct name, like ColorPlus.icm. Since I have been doing this, I see no difference between what I post and what I see. Let me know if this works for you! Eb Eb

Thanks Eb for your clear answer. Yes I have one doubt still. I have always the same problem you had: the uplouded pictures show less contrast and saturation compared to what I see in my computer even when I recall the photos from UF. But: - My monitor is controlled with Spyder 2 Pro every 15 days. - In PS the assigned working area is Abode RGB with the profile Nikon Adobe RGB. - Just before saving for the Web I convert from Nikon Adobe RGB to sRGB IEC61966 and then, having moved to a narrow gamma, I satured a bit all colors in particular yellow and green. All the same I very often have to cancel the posted picture for adding contrast and even more saturation. You write: "converting to sRBG or better yet Monitor RGB". What does it means? May be here the problem? The last thing: do you mean that while saturating in LCH editor in Capture NX you have the gray tones off? Let me kow how much I have to pay for this technical advice. Ciao Eb.

Thanks Pat! All the 80-400VR photos are taken hand held with VR on, of course. Eb

Eb - Nice shot. Was this taken with the mirror up setting to prevent camera shake?

Giuseppe you have asked many questions and I hope I can answer them to your satisfaction - if not, please ask again. By "accurate option," I meant that the converting to sRGB, or better yet, monitor RGB, is the only accurate way. (Accurate, in my meaning is = "what you see is what you get.") I get back from the Internet exactly what I see in my editor. The other option I had been using was OK but less accurate. With that option I decided from experience that saturation loss to the web was about 25% and therefore increased it by 25% before posting. I don't know why it took me so long to add profile conversion to my work-flow! I don't think the saturation in camera is any better and can be changed anyways in NC. The advantage of using the Chroma control in the LCH editor in NC is that you can exclude grey tones from becoming saturated. For reviewing purposes I like to keep saturation and sharpness high, in camera. I turn sharpness off in NC and then use PS plug-in, Nik Sharpener Pro for my sharpening routine, in two stages - slight pre sharpening and then sharpening again at the end of the work-flow. However, I find that the enhanced saturation setting in camera is a good baseline in most instances and adjust from there. Your D2X result may be different. The Capture NX is available for 30 day trial download. I suggest you try it. It has all the features of NC 4.4 but in a different interface (confusing at first.) Additionally, it has selection tools and a paintbrush for applying adjustments selectively to only parts of the image. There is also a novel feature called "control points" which also allow for selective application of editing wherever in the image you wish. The results are blended in perfectly! NX also has full colour management capability. The only thing lacking is a healing brush - that is understandable as it is a RAW converter, only! Anything NX does can be done in PS, but not while in the RAW state and not as easily. The control point technology is quicker and easier than using masks. NX is not yet for sale until end of July or early August but will have an upgrade discount. Eb

Thanks Eb, you are a friend. What you do, and I don't, is: - the use of NC NX: it offers something that PS does not? - the saturation in camera: my it's set at a low point following the advice of Nikon istruction in the use of RAW files. Do you think possible that the saturation made by the camera is better than the saturation in NC and/or PS? - I do calibrate the monitor and convert in sRGB but what do you mean by: "in the accurate option"? Be patient! Thanks Eb. Ciao.

Sorry I don't have time to comment on them all, Eb, but I really like this shot, with the colours, background and exceptionally good clarity! Dave.

You did a good job on the post work. I think the dark background makes the purple stand out more.

Giuseppe, I did forget to mention another difference. I am now converting to sRGB profile before saving to web - specifically, I am converting to my calibrated monitor profile which ensures that what I see is what I get back when viewing on the web. If I save my image to web in my working AdobeRGB profile, then there is a loss of saturation and contrast in the uploaded image. In the past I added a little saturation, but usually not enough, in order to compensate for this loss. To convert to sRGB is the accurate option and has given me the saturation and contrast that I intended. Eb

Yes, Giuseppe, I am gradually becoming more aggressive in my processing. I will attach the in-camera version so you can assess the level of change. However, even in the camera I use the maximum saturation setting. I have also begun to use Nikon's Capture NX for the RAW processing and then transfer to PS for further work. Capure NX gives me some more specific control over local contrast, saturation, etc. which I was not able to do previously without masking. I recommend Capture NX as it is definitely more advanced than Capture 4.4 and the learning curve is not too steep. Eb

Very nice this too, mostrly for the beautiful colour that spring out from the dark. Eb it seems to me that the colours of your photos are nicer and starker now. It can be or it is a wrong feeling? Ciao.
