Well, I think the bloodred sky adds to the picture. Giving it more drama.
(the Iwo Jima statue?)

There is a blend mode in Photoshop that will apply the tones of one image, and apply it to the other, which is helpful for sharply differing images like this.
I forget the exact mode, but will look it up if you wish, Rob.

Hi there...it was sunset and they had already turned on the flood lights onto the statues...trying to work out how to balance the lighting out; any suggestion would be helpful. thanks!

it's a nice shot, but the lighting doesn't agree...sunset behind them, but key light from in front.

i like the close-up view of the soldiers. in my opinion the lighting on them is too harsh to fit with the sky behind - it's like they were lit with studio lights in the battlefield. if you gave them less exposure or softwared them appropriately the effect might be more natural ;-) regards, kostas
