About Can't you just hear one of those little yellow flowers talking to his buddy? "When I grow up I'm going to look just like daddy." (Yeah, I know - they are not really baby gerbra daisies - call it "artistic license" :-)

Well, today was a beautiful day and we were out enjoying the garden. My wife was doing garden things with a neighborhood college student for a helper. I, of course, was noodling around with my camera. These flowers are actually in a large pot. Even though the day was sunny, by the time I took this picture the pot was in deep shade. I decided to experiment with a gold reflector that I recently bought to cast some light on the scene and this was the result. I also took a picture of the setup which I will post. I tried several shots with a large f-stop to blur the background but I liked this shot the best. It was much to warm to be wearing any kind of jacket, but I had my trusty piece of black velvet handy which my wife's assistant held for me. So, I'm including this shot in my "My Wife's Black Jacket" series.

___Jim this is a brilliant, well composed image with wonderful clarity and great color. The traditional shallow DOF is missing but certainly not missed! The black backdrop was a wonderful idea and the warm tones and overall clarity really make this shot sing! I would have anticipated an ISO 200 . . . 400 seems a little fast but the shot clearly doesn't suffer at all!
___Also . . . Thanks SO much for helping all of us learn by sharing the secret of this photo's setup . . . A gernerous and great help for all of us!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Excellent composition and print quality, Jim! The tonal quality is superb. I like the accent created by the one out of colour daisy. Your lighting set-up and extra effort were well worth the result.

Very, very cool. I want to try this for myself now. I love the way the gold light has filled in and warmed up the entire composition. I think I personally would have cropped a bit off the right side, but it is definitely fine as is. Great work! I'm off to get myself a reflector :)

Jim Budrakey Jim Budrakey   {K:24393} 6/25/2006
Here's the setup for this shot. The reflector is the gold side of a 41" Promaster (the flip side is metalic silver). The black velvet is not shown because I took this shot before I thought of using it.
