Fantastic portrait! Very nice job with DOF and the exposure. The clarity, and crisp clarity is *perfect*.

The lighting is wonderful. The ambient fill/bounce is amazing!

well done! Your eye is better than that lens ;)

congrats on the DOD award!

Eb - Awesome shot. Natural lighting really brings out the colors. Very sharp with NO noise. One of your best. Congratulations on award!

Kelly, thanks for the encouragement. I will work on doing more people/portrait photography. It goes against my basic nature as I feel shy and awkward when imposing mysef with a camera.

I personally can't think of a better excuse to get a new lens. Delightfully, beautiful grandchildren! Great present for their folks too (this one is definitely deserving of a spot on the wall). The colors and the lighting are superb! I love their hair color! Congrats on DOD.

Best regards,

What beautiful red haired beauties these are. (Red hair runs in our family also). The detail is awsome and so is the lighting in this capture. I see that you don't have very many portraits in your portfolio but you should really think about taking more as you do such wonderful work. Congrats for the DOD of the day!!!

Dave Stacey Dave Stacey   {K:150877} 6/15/2006
Excellent portrait of these two, Eb! Love those expressions, and the details and colours are superb!
Congrats on your well deserved award, too!

Eb Mueller Eb Mueller   {K:24957} 6/15/2006
Thanks, Jim. It is window light. I had them pose about 4 ft. from the wall and window. The f/8 aperture was enough to ensure that there was no wall texture. The wife wants to hang it up in her office, but I think I will print more for home and relatives, too.

Eb Mueller Eb Mueller   {K:24957} 6/15/2006
Thanks, Kes. The colour balance had to be corrected manually because the colour of the walls threw the camera's auto WB way off.

Thanks, Paul! New glass is always an adventure! I tried a Sigma 10-20mm, and found it lacking. The vignetting was way too much. I took it back in favour of a Nikon 12-24mm. I hope there is a Canon equivalent for you, or perhaps the Sigma will work better on the Canon snesor (very slightly smaller.) I also have a 10.5mm fisheye. There are many creative possibilities with that one but it will not sub for an ultra wide angle.

Hi Eb, looks like you nailed the exposure here. Color is correct too and of course excellent expressions. Congrats!

Jim Budrakey Jim Budrakey   {K:24393} 6/15/2006
What a great portrait. Now tell me you're not gonna hang that one on the wall :-). Is that window light? Also how did you manage to loose the background?

Eb Mueller Eb Mueller   {K:24957} 6/15/2006
Thanks Paul. Lets see how many awards I can afford? At close to two grand $ and some luck I should have another one in about a year. :) All jesting aside, it feels really nice to hit the usefilm jackpot and I hope it happens to you sooner than later.

whip out the new lens, and you become Usefilm's Donor of the Day, Eb! Congrats. ;)

Nice job, Eb. softly lit and what a great piece of glass! Congrats, man. I'm still saving up for my next lens. (a 10mm ultra-wide)
