Thanks Phillip,
Did you notice the story behind this one?
This is an image taken in exactly the same place as one that I took over 30 years previous. (Also on Usefilm) I posted the earlier version underneath this one with the url.

What a fantastic find! I see a lot of these types of photos on differents sites, however, this is one of the better ones!

A wonderful image, filled with character! Well spotted and captured!

Cheers

Hi Fadel,
Nice to see you back again!
I knew you would eventually comment on this one because I believe you commented on the original when I posted here more than a year ago.
When my brother and I first approached these old vehicles again, I knew exactly what shots I wanted to take. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face when I found them like this! Still photogenic after all these years!

If you haven't already, check out the ones with my brother in them to compare them to the thirty year old versions. We both got a kick out of doing these images again. Even though he probably doesn't remember posing for the originals. :)

This series is just amazing Andre, and it must have been a great joy to find these cars after all these years (more than the years of my life)

Thanks Gayle,
I wanted to do this re-take shot last year, but had a little trouble locating it. I thought the cars and trucks might have been removed. My brother found the vehicles while walking inthe woods with his daughter. My brother is featured in quite a few of my images from this area over thirty years ago. So, I re-shot him in the same places as well :)
I will have to draw a map for the Grand-kids. When they arrive :) Not too soon, I hope :)

Before my time...hehehe...wink wink ;>
but,i think the concept of retaking shots to show
current conditions is highly interesting...i like the vintage look of the original in that toning, but prefer this one due to the darker contrast level making the hues richer...will probably be there for many future generations,so tell your grandkids to keep visiting this bus and shootin' the same shot...what a trippy exhibition that would be!

Thanks Manu,
Just before this one, I posted some earlier shots from the same location with a before and after theme. More than thirty years in between shoots, but you might guess just 4 or 5.

This is a very fascinating story you are telling here..! I find the decomposition over the years had made this subject even more appealing....just flicking from the BW version to this one is awesome...I need more time to view.

Excellent idea

Thanks Jeanette,
I think if I had to choose one type of image that I had to work on, it would be this kind of subject. You are right. That area where these cars are is a goldmine for me :)

Ohhhh - another one! Yes, as my own title suggest, there´s strong sense of memory and here even more. In my case more methaphorical and here really old and full of memory´s and nice vintage look. Such a goldmine

Sigh!

There are so much really human thoughts in such considerations and in such photos. I guess we would give just anything to be able to sit just for an hour with our school mates, those nice kinds of the class. If we only knew what became of those faces and voices!

But alas, this is just impossible. And exactly this is why that remembrance keeps on naging in our hearts, I guess.

Greetings and cheers my friend!

Thanks for the rave review Hugo!
I tried this one in strong dark colours, (on your earlier suggestion) Going back in time seems to work particularly well for this kind of subject. I have reverted back to a toned B&W image for today's post. (different vehicle) But, I do have a colour version in reserve, if there is enough intrest.

Andre! Don't think it can get better than this. If I were Stephen King, I'd put this on the cover of "Christine". But, the reference to Alice Cooper is also evident. Extremely powerful shot.

I like the thought of going back in time behind this series, too. Incredible the cars are still there! The comparison between the two in terms of increased decay is fascinating, and makes the photo even stronger, I believe.

Superb photo - very well captured!

Cheers,

Hugo

Nick,
You are absolutely right! Old vehicles like this, along with old torn down farm houses, always make me feel just a little sad.
I find myself imagining like you say, a "life" and a history to this school bus that took place 50 years ago. A lot of the kids that rode to school on this bus are now Grandparents living in the area. How many are no longer with us? How many moved to the big city? Are any famous? Do some live in poverty? Are any criminals?

Such photos tell stories and if they are also technically brilliantly shot, like this one here, the observer almost sees the kids getting on the bus to go to school, almost hears their voices in laughter or anger. But time goes and flows and there is nothing that lasts for ever - just like the demolished old bus under branches and rust.

A great moment, Andre!

Hi Ray,
I know you are kind of half joking about trying to remember where the original images were taken. It is true though. The mind plays amazing tricks on us after the years roll by.

Even though the cars, trucks and bus are situated less than 1K from our summer cottage, I had convinced myself over the years that they were in a different spot. I went looking in that spot last year to do this shoot. Of course, I couldn't find them and assumed that they had been taken away. My brother meanwhile, about 6 months later stumbled upon them while taking his daughter for a little adventure walk in the woods. Of course, I was delighted when he told me they were still around. When we went back this past April to take these shots, it felt just like being back in the early 70's. :)

I am amazed that the bus is still there Andre. Great idea to go down memory lane, I must try that some time....Providing I can remember where to go:):)
Great shot my friend with excellent clarity and great colour tones.. The condition of this old bus is quite astounding. I love too your monochrome version, it looks great. Well done to you.....sorry to be behind...work! Very best wishes....Ray

Hi Kathy,
When I took the one in the attachment, it hadn't been there that long, and was only recently retired. Note the 1969 plate. I know I said that I took this image in 1970, but it could have been as late as 1972. Anyway, what you can't see from this angle is that the bus is up on blocks, with no wheels on it.
I'm going back in another 36 years for a follow up. :) Stay tuned!

Thanks Ian,
And thanks for visiting! Actually any technical info I left in this about is for the original B&W image.

The colour one above was altered only slightly in Photoshop to show a little darker and more subdued atmosphere. I tried to keep the colour dark and rich, without being overwhelming.
Mostly levelling and a slight de-saturation.

Thanks Janet,
Like I said to someone else, I'm not going to try and duplicate every image I ever took over the last 30 years or so. But, I've been wanting to do this for some time now, since I posted the originals on Usefilm. I made an attempt to look for these cars and trucks last year, but I couldn't remember exactly where they were. I thought I was in the right place, apparently not! My brother suggested another area close by and sure enough, there they were, just like my old images!

Thanks Andrzej,
They will have to roll me out there in a wheelchair to take the next set of photos, if I wait another 36 years. :)
It's funny, you know my photographic tastes have not really changed that much since I started making images. I still favour the same kind of scenes, and still like shooting the same things.

A great piece Andre, the aging process has developed so much character in that GMC! A much more interesting shot it makes today. Wonderful title, Alice would be proud! ;) (a product of our mis-spent youth!) -john

Hi Rina,
My brother and I were absolutely amazed at how little these cars and trucks have changed over the years.
I have to admit, I did a good job on the original in the darkroom... considering I was only 4 years old at the time :)
We'll find out what they look like in 2042, when I go back and shoot them again :)

Can't believe the chrome hood ornament has stayed in such great condition after 36 years. I'm surprised it's still there at all! I must say, the original shot is absolutely superb. Surely you couldn't have been more than a teen then, with an amazing eye for composition and skill with the technical. A child prodegy! ;)

Really do like these before and afters Andre, and now you have me wondering (imagining) what your captive subjects would look like in another 36 years time...

Cheers
Rina.

Also, thanks for swinging by my way. Am totally blown away by the award but at the same time, chuffed that staff have enjoyed my silliness. Oh, sorry to say but, Kirsten can't save him now. Stay tuned for the finale tomorrow... ;D
