I vote for the lighter version Tjaart. Beautiful sky and compo.

I also prefer the second version (with more foreground light).
I would probbably have built a full HDR (high dynamic range) image of this scene.
It's a really fantastic method that enables you to capture both a deep shadow detail and a highlight detail. I discovered it a few days ago and as it is relatively unknown, am trying to spread the word :) Using a tripod you shoot a couple of different exposure photos (2EV apart) to cover the whole dynamic range of the scene. Then you combine these images with a PS CS, Photomatrix or some other HDR enabled software. What you get is a 32bit/channel(!) image with gigantic dynamic range. You can than use an advanced tone-mapping algoritythm such as Fattal and/or Reinhard to 'collapse' the HDR image back to something you can display on the monitor.
The results can be fantastic!
Take a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging
http://www.hdrsoft.com/
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/high-dynamic-ran ge.htm

If you are lucky enough to be using Linux, there are a few quite good and free programs for HDR imaging.
Hope I didn't bore you to death :)

The colors are superb. Additionally the softness of the clouds adds feeling/beauty to the picture. However, I would have liked tohave seen more of the tree - closer to the foreground. In any event this is a lovely picture.

Hi Tjaart, Again such an amazing sky! I Agree with Ferran, though. A bit more light (or brightness for that matter) in the foreground would've been nice, and balance the overall tonal range a bit, I think. Nonetheless a great shot; yet another place to visit...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

I like your photo a lot Tjaart, this sky looks great, and the tree is awesome. However, i think i'd look much much better if you had caught the sunset light on the ground (was it a sunset or a sunrise??). Nevermind, low light hitting this beautiful landscape would make this shot even better. Well, this is just an opinion.

Best wishes!
ferran
