I like the way the background fades into the fog. I can't tell if it was just foggy or if it was also icy (was there a coating of ice on everything?). Even though the horizon isn't straight - I think it is minimized because one can see the whole tree trunk/shadow of the closest/darkest tree. If this had been hidden from view I believe that the horizon may have distracted. I also like that you were downhill from the subject- nice touch.
I can imagine standing here - enjoying the sound proofness of the fog and snow - how quiet and "soundless" it might be. The sepia is a wonderful touch - a pleasant softening. Ah - a bench off to one side so I could sit and listen.

Although nature's themes like that are not unusual, in some way the sepia like tone gave strenght to the loneliness felling. It makes the scene something more nolstagic. I beleive that the use of just one tree one the first plane the the image of other ones together on the second plane helps to increase that felling.

My favourite image of yours so far. And they are all really good. I particularily like the interplay of light and shadows here and the well chosen framing. The atmospheric layering is almost magical. This is a great photo!
I want to ask; Do you find there is an advantage to shooting in black and white over converting to black and white after the fact? Also, what method did you use to tone the image?
