Hi again Tony, An excellent portrait on this goatherd at the end of the day. I agree that the backlighting is a bit on the heavy side around the beard... At the same time, it is essential to show some because it gives that nice "end of the day, sun going down look" Is it possible that it is too strong because of the choice of sharpness level in the Usefilm Upload? I find a huge difference in my uploads between the light and medium sharpness levels. Usefilm sets medium as the default, but all my uploads look much better on the light setting. Andre

I'm glad you liked the portrait Cecilia-there are a lot more Portraits of goatherds in my portfolio. The part of the beard that is white is due to the fact that the sun was directly behind his head and so was illuminating it! ................Regards, Tony

I like very much this portrait and the way you compose it. But I don't understand the white part in it. Hi Cecilia

Hi Hugo,I'm glad you liked the photo and agree with you about the backlighting of the beard,at the time I liked the contrast and the presence of the setting sun behind him but I think I might be able to tone down the effect in photoshop. As for the lensbaby,I'm still toying with the idea but am not prepared to pay the price the distributer in Madrid is asking!I look forward to seeing what kind of results you get from it. I'm planning to continue with my photo story of Paco the goatherd,I see him most weekends and he doesn't mind me taking photos so I can get some very natural spontaneous photos- I hope! All the best,Tony

Hi Tony,
I like this type of character sketch portraits, not only including a functional / natural background, but also using it to tell a part of the story and background behind the photo. Very strong imagery, and a good shot.
The white part in his beard is a bit distracting, though, as it differs in tone, attracting a lot of attenion, diverting it away from the introvert expression (if such a thing exist: introvert expression sounds paradoxal...)
I won't touch on the toning, that's just not my style, but too subjective to say anything useful about, and I guess it'll serves a purpose here. It's a good shot, and a great appraoch and idea.
Cheers,
Hugo
