I am so jealous Doyle! Your beaches in Cali are so much more diverse and interesting than ours here in Florida! We are totally surrounded by sand! Wonderful job here. I love the rocks in the foreground, as well as the different shades of the water captured. Excellent my friend.

Klaas:
Never angry about honest critique. Even if I don't agree with it. Unfortunately . . . I agree with you in this case. I have thought since it was posted that the Fonts detract SIGNIFICANTLY from the capture. They're not (as you say) "a bit overdone" but, indeed, WAY overdone. It's a mistake I'll be avoiding in the future. If you look at (for example) the portrait I put up of my son, you'll see that I may have swung the pendulum too far the other way (with very reduced fonts) even before I read your comment. Never-the-less, I quite agree and will be more cautious about that in the future. Thanks for the honesty and the willingness to present it.....that's what makes this forum meaningful!

Hi Doyle, great ocean shot you've posted here.
Something to think about, and don't be angree about me mensioning, be carefull with the fonts, I think they're a bit overdone, I made that mistake too and someone made me see. It leads the attention away from the real photo.
It's maybe a detail, but i think an important one.
Good luck and all the best,

Klaas

Thanks Nessa . . . it was a great spot with a small penninsula to the right where the brave (foolhardy?) could try to go and get wet and, possibly, better pictures. It's actually drizzling here and there were only four of us on the beach . . . the rocks were quite slippery so I settled for this area (to protect my camera). ;)

Very good shot of the wave action. You did a great job on the editing.

Lovely capture of the water crashing down on the rocks and yet so calm looking at the forefront..nessa

Thanks Ron . . . appreciate the comment . . . I don't agree about the picture still needing to be straightened but I do agree about the distracting frame . . . I did not straighten by cropping and used the horizon line as the guide. The dramatic power in this capture is (in my opinion) in the water; not so much on the beach and / or rocks. It never occured to me to switch that focus but I will look into it in the future to see how the scene would play out. It's nice to hear such well thought out comments and although personal preferences about these things will differ; please know that I appreciate your honest thoughts and ideas being presented whether or not I agree with their substance. It always helps to make one think.

I like the rocks in the fg and the crashing waves in the back. Would have liked to have seen a narrower dof, possibly the rocks sharp and the bg a tad oof. The picture still needs to be straightened and the frame is distracting too. Did you straighten by cropping or did you use a different method?
