About This is a 360 x 180 degree panorama cropped at top and bottom to make it more acceptable as a flat photo. The full version is intended for a VR display where you can scan, pan and zoom around inside the image without any distortion. You wouldn't guess it from this picture but there was a strong wind blowing and it was really cold! I think my Russian Peleng fisheye is doing quite well. Note how the stitching software blends the harsh outside sunlight and shadows with the fluorescent lighting inside the station. Oh yes, I've started to use 100 ISO film for these panoramas in view of the grain that shows up with 400 ISO at these larger pixel dimensions.

Thanks, George. Actually I am feeling rather at sea having just been forced to abandon my well-known and well-loved Fuji Superia (Venus) 400 and 800 ISO emulsions, so this would be a good time to experiment with another emulsion. I used to love B&W conversions from the Venus 200 ISO emulsion, but they have stopped making it. Now I have to get used to 100 ISO (which I am finding tough!) I can try REALA too. Look forward to seeing your B&W conversions from it. My main concern is exposure latitude. Need all I can get, shooting 360-degree panoramas... I think the above, in colour and B&W, is pretty good in terms of latitude, I must say. I was more-or-less prepared to settle for this as my new standard, although it would be a while before I knew its quirks and foibles as well as I do the 400 ISO...

By the way Roger, if you will try a roll of Fuji Reala 100. As good as the color is, particularly with skin tones, you'll find that the B&W conversions are incredible. When I get back from Singapore I'll post a couple.

Thanks for not hesitating too long Roger.

Thanks for the suggestion, Baki. I tried the B&W conversion and you're right, it does look good. The curves and perspectives are even stronger. I am hesitating whether to post it...

This is a great result. You have evolved a marvelous technique for these shots that really sets the standard. Just terrific!

All the best,
