J'aime bien cette vieille croix celte George et je me suis longtemps demandé si je n'avais pas un peu du sang de ces «barbares» dans le mien, de sang, à cause de mon nom. J'aime aussi l'angle sous lequel vous l'avez cadré.

Hi George,
Great dramatic angle and lighting. I went to the same location a few years ago and was moved by the tranquility amongst the ruins..

This is so powerful so close and at that angle. Like the textures- feels so real and mysterious.

Thank you, George. Your instinct was obviously right... but I think I would probably have stuck with this alternative, if only to get the arms of the cross in...

Beautiful texture in the old stone cross.

Thanks, Roger. I was looking for a dramatic effect with this version. Here's another that has some of what you're looking for.

I echo the opinions about angle, lighting, colour and textures. But I wonder if the crop is a little too severe? I know my own tendency is quite the other way, but I guess there was at least one more photo that could have been taken, giving a hint of the setting. But by the look of the black in the upper left (looks more like a PS black-out than a shadow) I guess you were really trying to focus on the cross alone. It certainly works well!

This is really nice George.. like the perspective... taking the shot from this angle really brings out the best of the carvings on that stone, sending the focal point right to the centre & the patriarch that stands there. The colours of the stone are also brought to life by the outside darkness.

Very formidable photo.. love this.

Haven't tried the Critiquer's Corner yet...dunno if I REALLY want a serious opinion...here's mine...excellent perspective...great use of available light...the stone work seems to vary significantly in color form brown to almost gray...We'll assume the result of natural aging..nice detail in the shadows and an overall pleasing presentation...Whew!...ran out of words

Hi George, to me, the strongest thing in this photo is the angle of photography and lighting, making an optimal use of the textures in the Base relief. Very interesting shot. It does look as if you put quite some effort in reviving the textures in the shadowy parts. Great job!

Cheers,

Hugo

George:
Again I find that I like very much the way the textures involved seem to be so well conveyed. The angle is good in that it leaves an appropriate amount of inky shadow to help out with the contrast. I find the subject matter a little strange for my taste, but that's personal preference . . .

Regards-
Doyle I
