Hi Ernie,
By spiny rays, I assume you are talking about Black Crappie or White Crappie?
My current favourite fishing activity here is using my fly rod to fish for Smallmouth Bass in fast water. Now, that is a lot of fun! Smallmouths of a much smaller size than the big lunkers that are found in the lakes are very plentiful in the fast water rivers near our cottage. One to two pounders on a fly rod meant for Brook Trout keeps a smile on my face!

Ernie, the lure"Frantic Antic" is a "Jitterbug" made by Arbogast. This lure has been around for a long time.I think from the 1930's to this day.I have caught many, many Bass on this lure!

The Jitterbug is yet to come and this month will be mostly fishing lures. I could probably finish out the year with nothing but FISHING STUFF but will keep it to these objects. Much more Americana to come. Our game department doesn't like bass or spiny rays and usually poison out the lake with Rotenone and replant with trout. I grew up catching trout but now I favor the spiny rays and the vast array of lures used to catch them.

Ernie,
This image, like so many others of yours brings back many memories for me. When I was about 9 or 10 years old, my dad and I used to fish quite a lot. I very clearly remember graduating from live bait to artificial lures!
The type in the image above is one of the first kinds we used. We bought "Jitterbugs".
The memory of the anticipation of casting one of these lures in the "perfect" spot (usually next to a lily pad or log) is something that a lot of people will never understand or experience.
These days, I still enjoy this type of fishing, the only difference being that I take the barbs off the hooks and always release the fish.
I do this not to appease the politically correct, but because my youngest son wanted me to.
BTW
I admire the way you steadfastly stick to your image style of just simply portrying little slices of Americana. Your images may never get many views or comments. However you are compiling a very honest unpretentious document with your portfolio.
