After cleaning and lubrication, it was time to shoot a test roll with my Rolleiflex. The previous image was done before this, the lens had some fungus and I must say I wasn't that impressed with it.
Now I am. And it's not a little. Maybe my best lens was made on 1961 :-)
And that's not all it can give, thanks to my enthusiasm, which leads to mistakes... I picked a Fuji Provia 400 to test it with slide film. Since I don't own a handheld meter and wasn't interested in carrying one of my Nikons as such, guess what? I guessed exposures. Wrongly, of course... At home I compared my guessing with my F3's meter and discovered my mind's meter was regulated for ASA 100! Well, the lab guys saved the film on development.
So, what you're actually seeing is Provia 400 exposed and developed as a 100 ASA film. And the results are simply amazing. Color, resolution, detail, bokeh, this little Zeiss Planar is impressive even at 45 years old. I know many women that'll envy this...
It was shot at a club I'm member here in São Paulo. The light was interesting, the green outside and the wood tones inside make for a cozy mood.
This image is the result of my first guessing. A backlight with great selective focus, nice to push the lens after its "spa". Please note the lens is wide open and I believe it wasn't coated. I respect it much more now! And to think my Rolleiflex 3.5F WITH Rolleikin cost me no more than US$ 120... The best value for money I'll ever get.
For those interested on Rollei/Rolleikin images, my next postings will be with it. Although the image is 24x36, as with any 35mm format camera, sometimes I'll crop it square, just to give it a certain Rollei 6x6 mood. But it's ALWAYS 35mm.
