This is really beautiful. I thought--before I saw the exchange with Doug (great dialogue, by the way!)--that the black frame and some of the silhouette effect were overpowering and that there artifacts (maybe from sharpening) in the pond. The feathery tree is marvelous. If only the trunk could have been defined a bit. All in all, I think it fits best into a horizontal format.

This is not very good and here's why imho:
Noise in a mediocre sky ...
Conflict of type of trees ...
Overly opaque border once again even though a possible series ...
What's good or great: ... ?
The glorious 'Pool of Gold' reflection on the right side of the frame!
I suppose you are now going to put out a contract on me for being honest ... !:)))
