Michael,

Thank-you for your postive feed back...and you are so right on three things --- it is also awesome to be home and with the family. The other one is I should have cleaned up the photo in photoshop...and to be honest I was being lazy. The third one is the experiences that I had from Iraq will be with me forever...both the good and bad...Thank-you again for your postive feed back.

Best wishes,
Chuck

Damn, this is beautiful yet sad. It invokes that lonely feeling as well as a certain degree of realization and achievement. The colors and title are perfect! I like your decision to go with a portrait crop, perfect for a magazine page. I do see some dust on your lens though, I know there’s not really jack you can do about that out there in the field constantly, but, it can be removed in Photoshop pretty quickly. That’s about the only real criticism I can give this shot. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t worry about the dust, it adds character to the photo, I decided to leave some of those imperfections in my photos specifically for that reason. Chuck, this is a surreal shot! I think it’s one of the best in your portfolio. Lighting, composure, emotional appeal.. It’s outstanding.. No bull! I’m rating this 7 despite the dust and high iso noise, like I said, the imperfections add character and make this unique and raw rather than I fine tuned glamour shot.
~Mike
P.s. it’s nice to hear your back home. I’m sure it was an experience you’ll never forget

Kes,

"Hi" Let me start off by saying I'm sorry for not writing back sooner...I have been in the procces of moving from base to another base...

Okay - On the dust - I just use a filter on the front of my lens to protect it. I carry with my a lens cloth and use it alot. Also at the end of the day I do a deep cleaning on all my gear, that is if I can.

On the Sensor - I have to give it to one of my maint techs to clean it. We are not allowed to do it. So I get it clean as needed or at least once a month.

Changing Lens - I basically use only one lens, a 28-200mm lens. The main reason for this is in the heat of battle I may miss a shot while changing lens, also the 28-200mm lens gives me a wide range.

However I do carry thwo other lens, a night vision device for the camera, two flashes, and a whole bunch of flash cards. In combat you travel as light as you can.

Well I hope that answered your questions.

Best Wishes,
Chuck

Excellent silhouette!

How do you deal with the dust? Do you have to clean the sensor often? Do you change lenses frequently?

Take care

Excellent silhouette and warm tones Chuck! The dynamic range is exceptional from the bright sun to the faded horizon to the dark ground. Did you use any filter? Great composition and colors, Best regards, Ina
