Ina,
Thank-you for the postive feed back - it is sad that we have wars in the world - but I think it is important for us to document them - so future generations can see the images of war - and how ugly it can be - Hopefully our children will know world peace one day.
Best Wishes,
Chuck

Hi Chuck, I'm sorry that you lost a comrade, he is definitely a hero. And you made him a great hommage, well done. I hope his family has this picture, it must be so hard for them. I also think you should write this in the "about" since I didn't know what the Silver Star was awarded for, until I read through the comments. I see you are getting a lot of praise, but also a lot of criticism. As a cameraman, you are doing a wonderful job, it's really too sad of a subject for me to comment on composition and lighting, so I'll just say it's well done, take care, and be safe, Ina

Oh. Sorry Chuck. I had no idea. :( Then of course, he is a Hero. And so are you for risking your life there to take the Picture. So are his family members. He'd have been a Hero even if he were still alive. We all sit here in front of our Computer Screens in our nice warm, safe homes and don't think about these things. And the ones who scoff at people like this are the worst, I think.

Terry,
Thank-you for your feed back. The sad thing - is SPC Velez was killed defending his teammates on the 13th of Nov 2004 in Fallujah - he was awarded the Silver Star for his action - in my own way, I will always see him as my Hero. Thanks again for the feed back.
Chuck

Hi Johancharles,
Very serious business. My first thought was the colours. They're all brown, yellow. They blend in well. Then I realised that's contrived by the US Military, because they're in the desert. Looks good in the shot. My second thought was, boy do these Guys mean business. They're well equipped, well disciplined and they're obviously there to complete a task, no matter what the cost. Be it money or life. The photo makes it painfully obvious that both are no object. My third thought was a Mexican American fighting so fiercely for the US. I think it speaks volumes. As regards Photojournalism, I think this Pic deserves a very high rating. It speaks the proverbial 1000 words. Whether people like the message or not, it tells a story. Which is what Photojournalism is all about.

Gust@vo Sch3v3rin,
Soldiers are Soldiers - nothing more. Regardless of what country they are from.
However terrorist are another thing - don't forget 911, the train bombing in England - beheading of civilians - I could go on...but I won't.
Please remember this is a photo site to critique other photographer's work - so we can all learn from one another and better our skills as photographer.
Chuck
