About The same individual as in the previous upload. This time sitting on a green leaf. The change in the base colour demonstrates the ability of the frog to camouflage.

Used the Nikon SB-R200 flash system. One flash unit held underneath the leaf (full strength) and the second unit on the lens mount. Reflector above at an angle. Slight cropping and minimal adjustments to sharpness and contrast in PS.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Actually, you make me feel a whole lot better as I too find a tripod cumbersome and very rarely use it. Knees and elbows are always good. (Example: my fly shots). I too have tried a monopod and like you found it easier to rest on it, but I still seem to work better without it. What is your system for fast flash with small apetures? At the moment I only have the built in flash. I've always tried to use natural light for my pics but realise since getting the macro lens that that's not good enough anymore. Once again, thank you for your help and advice. Cheers, Ann.

Added to my favorites. Such an amazing frog, fantastic skin and colours as well as patterns. They way it lay there and rest (or what ever it does) seems so peaceful....ans the green leaf is a excellent "bed" for it. Sharp details and smooth tones, nice dof -- great shot Joggie!

Wich hipnotic means allows you to sit animals for so long time! Neither my flowers are so patient and quite.
Good, normal work; only for you.

Ciao. Giuseppe

Thanks Ann

I rarely use a tripod for my macro's - i find it too cumbersome and often the bug is gone by the time you've set up the system. Many of the bugs also try their best to evade you if you're that close (2.5cm) and you rather have to follow it through the lense and time the exposure at the right moment. I've developed a system for the extreme close-ups (with 2.75X Macro converter) where I can shoot at 1/320th sec at f11 or f16. Where I use only my 105mm micro lense, without the macro converter, I can go up to 1/6000th sec at f32. As you can see, at these speeds there is no problem with shake. I do like to use a monopod in many instances, but not with the camera fixed to it. I only use it as a rest for the hand that hold the camera (left). Where the subject is close to the ground I use my body and elbows. To sum it up - tripod? Seldom! Any other means to steady the camera - Most of the time. Kind regards.

Another fantastic froggie shot. I'm so jealous. I'm glad you said what lighting you used. I was wondering about that. Do you use a tripod or hand hold? Cheers, Ann.
