great job ! I've always wondered how can some people even think about shooting literally nothing, and come up with a great result

Ian,

Thanks for the comment. I am looking at mountains across a large lake. The overcast is very low, and is almost penetrated by the sun at the far shore.

Wonderous!
Specially intriguing "are they waves is that a cliff face" moment at the horizon line.

Larry,

I appreciate your comment. I too am quite surprised that this received an award. I would not say that it is one of my best photos--though I do like it. But of course I like minimalist art as well, and this photo does create the graphic abstract that I have been experimenting with for some time now. My personal favorites are True Blue, Abstract in Blue, Weighting, and Morning Fog (the one on page 4).

I am hoping to find the time to "redevelop" Horizon from the raw file, and make a print that is truly worthy of an award.

Regards,
David

David,

I don't mean to dump on you, this critique is aimed more the choices the "staff", whoever they may be, seem to make for their awards. This photo does nothing for me, like modern art where the canvas is all black except for a line of lighter black... minimalist art ain't my thing, but your photo titled winter, to me is much more effective or the one titled "***" (huh) at least there is something to relate too and makes the vastness of the sky more effective. But for this to be a best in project for patterns in nature, wouldn't it help to have a pattern and some nature...

Wow. perfect.your look and reaching to this unusual vision of the sea is adoreable. i realy admire your bravely composition, you have craeted a splendid form from "nothing", an empty perspective, but has shown brilliantly just because of your good composition.the line of perspective could be some burning to have better emphasize. keep up good works David!
