This is beautiful You captured the sunset wonderfully. The colors are very majestic looking. I love the tiny shadow of the mountian in the background. It just shows how ominous the sky is.

I know what you mean about the exotic colours Gayle. I look at some of the images coming out of aussie now and wonder if I can ever compete with them! Much discussion with my husband over whether or not the saturation in some is clever post-processing rather than nature or clever photography... Thanks for the feedback. Happy you likey :) Mucho appreciated!

The rim lit cloud cover is my favorite part of this comp and would work well on its own...the rest is gorgeous and so inviting....good job with the proportions...nice to see an Aussie sky that isn't oversat in exotic color combos, too ;>

Hmmm... I have so many trips planned this year, but now it seems I have to go to Oz, your photos are making me jealous and I miss the place (was there once when I was a kid). One more visa, damn... it will be worth it if I get a sunset like this. Thanks for sharing, and your comment on my photo. cheers, t

Rina, this is an awesome, awesome sunset! Stunning in clarity, lighting, colors, earth and sky, light and dark, everything is awesome! I love the deep orange band with the sun half hidden, the two-toned tree line, and the superb amber color ample sky with the gorgeous (I'm running out of words!) clouds! An award winner, from all points of view! Breathtaking work! Ina

Yes, well I thought about a timer... but then I couldn't find a single reason why I would put myself through the torture of having to run back up those steps in close to 40deg heat!!!! :))

Now, gamboge is a word for reddish/mustard/yellow colour, so I thought 'gambogian' would be a great way to sum up the colours here. That, and because it just rolls of the tongue so beautifully, don't you think? You could probably use it safely, so long as you don't use it in reference to your lovely wife's eyes...

Thanks for your wonderful critique Ray *blushes from head to toe* I have my bags packed right now! ;)

Wow, where was I when that sky was happening! Nice job Rina, the details in the clouds are great.

You mightn't have been too far wrong when you said Flinders Ranges which as you said is in South Australia, however Flinders Peak is between Ipswich and Jimboomba, part of the scenic rim and could well be what is in the distance of this photo.

For Ann's sake, its Mt Coot-tha overlooking Brisbane.

Ann Nida Ann Nida   {K:45248} 1/30/2006
I should know this as all this area was my stomping ground for many years. On the Gold Coast there is the Hinterland where Lamington National Park is. Just north of that is Mt Tamborine and from there you can see all the low lying areas of Archerfield and western Bisbane area. Closest to Brisbane is Mt Cuther which overlooks most of Brisbane and south, east and west. To the north of that the next mountain range is the Glasshouse Mountains on the Sunshine Coast. The entire mountain range from Cape York south to beyond the NSW border is called The Great Dividing Range. Do I get the Champagne or is my answer still too ambigious? :)

Anyway this is a stunning photo Rina. The colours are breathtaking and the clouds are gorgeous. A beautifully exposed image of a beautiful sky. What a mesmerising view. I love the digs in the attachment too. Where is that? A beautiful shot.

Cheers - Ann :)

Nope! Couldn't see you standing on the terrace sweetie:):):)
Surely you have wonderful sunsets in NZ Rina.....I have a friend over there and he has sent us some lovely landscapes over the years.
Now....'gambogian' there's a word to wonder at..is it good or bad language, I mean can I use it without getting a black eye??

It is, of course, a wonderful sunset and there are so many details to be examined amongst those gorgeously illuminated cloud formations. The colours are breathtaking.....yellows,golds,ambers and burnt orange...just fantastic. I love the minimalistic approach to the scenery at ground level....there is just enough to show where this immense sky starts. Like you, it's BEAUTIFUL. Well done to you sweetie...when are you going to run away with me????Best wishes as always.....Ray

Oh, did I say Flinders Ranges? (cough) ahem... I meant either the Scenic Rim or the Teviot Ranges... ummm, yeah... :))

I have no idea really. All confused and turned around now. Google's no bloody help either! How hard could it be to find out what mountains lie directly west of Brisbane?

If you manage to work it out, I'll send ya a bottle of champas!!! :)
