What a cute idea! Inspiring! Maybe we can try it by wet glass straws instead to capture the reflection as well.

WOW!! A fantastic abstract!! The DOF is used to maximum advantage here. The light shining through the straws lights them from the inside in a most facinating way. Amazing lighting throughout. A very imaginative and excellent shot!! &/& and a favotrite!

Thanks for your comments John. It's good to hear from a Drip Master himself..

I like this one. The DOF really bings this one to life. It looks so High Tech. Or, is it the arsenel of a great drip drop photog...? :-)

Splendid abstract, very original and with a magnificent effect and a few mysterious.

In effects with the lamps very particular images can be created, all it takes is observing her with careful eyes. If you want you can look at my photo: http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=992987 done with the same lamp of
http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=992987 what you had already seen.

Wow! This caught my eye immediately. I like how the straws appear to explode three-dimensionally right at the viewer. I like how you kept the leading edge of the straws sharp, with a narrow DOF.

I see images like this and I realize that the world is full of subjects to shoot. Great job!

John,
Terrific shot. I'm taken by the way the straws disappear, and fade into a mess of light and fuzziness. If this is simply the effect from the DOF and the lighting, I'm even more amazed. Some of the straws (like the one in the lower right-hand corner for example)even seem to show motion ... almost like light bending. Very, very nice! Congratulations.

AJ Miller AJ Miller   {K:49168} 1/3/2006
Hugo, once again many thanks. There is nothing at all PS induced here. The effect comes from the position of the light (a simple desk lamp), which I shone at the base of the glass. (I discovered this effect when working with spaghetti in a similar setup a few weeks ago.) I've checked through my shots and unfortuantely don't have one of the setup. But I simply arranged the straws in a glass - shaking the arrangement a bit to bring on this spiral effect.

As to the brightness and saturation, I'll give it a try.

Many thanks for your interest in these shots - I'm on a huge learning curve here!

John

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 1/3/2006
Hi John, the huge dynamism in this shot is spectacular. Is this only the DOF by the wide aperture I see? or did you also induce it with PS? I'd love to see your setup -- how you created the starlike composition with the straws as if originating from one point. Very good shot. Technically, I think a bit more brightness and saturation would make it stand out more, giving it a bit more punch, but that's a matter of personal taste, I believe. Great capture!

Cheers,

Hugo
