Actually, I like where the tent is placed in this photograph. It's on an intersecting third, and the line of the trees brings the eye right to it. The sky does look blown out, but it also looks like fog is rolling in, so it could be the sun reflecting off that.
Great shot. The only thing I'd change would be to crop a bit of the empty space at the bottom of the photo.

Just a bit of a crop on top to take away some of the colorless sky and bring more atention to the subject.

Another great shot. I like the sky in this picture. It really adds to the atmosphere, which looks too damn cold to me. A great sense of being there.

Sylvain, thank you! I am planning my first winter camping trip just next weekend! Unfortunately, if we don't get some snow in northern Minnesota it won't be the same! This really gets me excited, and is just the type of photograph I hope to bring home! This is a fantastic photo up until the sky. Maybe a bit blown out? Hard to get the exposed snow without blowing out the sky, though. Wonderful, though.

Tanks for the comment Petra. I think the picture convey well how it fell like being there but you are right, I should had put more taught into it. The thing is, when it is -20 degrees Celsius outside and your are handling an all metal camera it is tempting to shoot quickly!

Wow, Sylvain, better you than me, brrr! It looks very cold! On the picture itself, I would have preferred it cropped closer to the tent, as that really is the main focus. I don't see added merit by having the sky show. Now, if this would have been shot from a different angle so that only the rest of the mountain with more snowy trees was visible, I think it would be nice to keep the entire background. I just don't think grey sky is interesting and the smallness of the tent and person in nature comes across well without it too.
