About This shot of an old building on a downtown corner. I likes the curves and the pattens of brick and sky. No color work in PS, the bricks really are this red (white balance not withstanding).

Your critique is welcome.

Ina, I have used Canon's PhotoStitch for simple work and it did a pretty good job, with some caveates. The images you are stitching should be taken from EXACTLY the same perspective (tripod is best). Also if you used a wide angle for the shots it doesn't do a very good job on the horizon. Also, the color adjustments in blending are not very good. Otherwise as a strictly no-frills stitcher it isn't bad. I've done a few things with it I liked. I do have a 12 image panoramic I took hand-held of a amazing and HUGE outdoor mural on two adjoining walls that Photostitch did not have a prayer of getting right. Eventually I just gave up after messing with it for a few hours. I probably need PTGui for something like that.

With regards to PTGui, I uninstalled it. but I'll try to use PhotoStitch that came with the Canon camera. Have you tried that?
For a two picture pano, any program should work. I used PTGui to stitch 12 shots vertically and I was amazed how well it did it. However, the watermarks were NOT to my taste, even for a demo :)

Yes, Jeanette, I know what you mean here. I myself had looked at this shot and also felt that it was a little blank, that is, the image does not have enough to say. It is a little bit too plain. I liked the colors and shape of round corner, but there should be more. Perhaps a more radical angle, as you mention. Thanks for your critique.

It´s cool, but i can´t really decide what i think. I do like the cute clouds, the colours and so on.... but there´s something i wanna change... maby change the tilt, make it more. I´m not sure ;))

Interesting comment on PTGui, Ina. Yes I am interested in it and expect to buy it at some point. This is the software used by Usefilm member Carsten Ranke, a very accomplished landscape photographer. He often uses it to create vertical panoramics, that is, two shots stitched one above the other to yield a very high resolution square image. Check him out, he also describes his process on several of his images. The descriptions are technical, but quite interesting and his results are undeniable.

Too bad the trial version uses a watermark. That really makes it a "demo" rather than a "trial", at least to my way of thinking. In any event, I hope you find it useful!

Hi Mark, I thought I'd mention this: I downloaded and installed the trial version of PTGui (I remember you seemed interested in that software) and it works seamlessly. However, the trial version places watermarks on the final result and you need to buy the licence to get useable pictures :0)

Nice lines Mark! I like the curve, too, and you even managed to keep some blue in the sky...sometimes I have a hard time with that. Great red color. Well seen and well captured!
Happy New Year!

Sorry to hear about the mishap, Mark. My strategy is to use an external hard drive for temporary storage and write DVDs for backup. But I've heard many times of other people who have lost their images, and I've been told that DVDs are not permanent. So, I don't really know what else one can do with digital storage. I hope you'll get the new software working soon, and wish you a great 2006! Ina

Hi Mark,
Good use of repeating elements and shapes. An interesting perspective... and of course an excellent color theme.

Hope you have a Happy New Year!

Thanks for the good word Ina. And a very Happy 2006 to you and yours!!!

I have been down doing total reinstalls of both of my computers and lost a ton of photos due to faulty backup :-(. Make VERY sure your backup strategy is working!!! Mine was failing silently! Fortunately I do have most of the artistic shots I've done and posted on Usefilm or else planned to. I did lose a ton of other stuff which of course can not be replaced.

Anyway, I still don't have all my photo studio setup yet, so I'm only able to post things from the surviving art archive. Also am upgrading to CS2 (was using PS7) and so am without PS for a few more days. Muddling thru!

Great perspective on that curved wall, Mark! I love the architecture, and the red/ white contrast, as well as the efflorescence:) I like your new bio picture, great framing :) I've been away for a while, and I just wanted to wish you and your family (including the kitties) a very Happy New Year! Best regards, Ina
