Funny enough, my brother moved out to Portland just about 1 month ago...he loves it. I think you'll get the chance to go back if u need to :) Chris

Here's a tip if you're shooting with a tripod to get the horizon straight - adjust the telescoping legs, from the top lock on the correct leg, to tilt the camera & tripod to correct for the horizon. I do this while looking through the viewfinder to eye that it's level. As long as it's with in 1/2 a degree to level then you'll be good rotating the canvas later in photoshop. You wont have to crop away much then, saving the original composition and resolution.

thanks chris. see my above comment on the horizon; i agree. if you would, see my portfolio for several other variations of the same basic scene on the beach. i think this isn't the strongest, but i do like the wave shape too, so i included it. thanks again!

thank you so much for the comment! i agree about the tilted horizon; it bothers me too. when I tried to fix it, it cropped out the curve of the water on the lower right so i had to live with it. oh well : )

This looks like a great landscape, I think a couple things that may improve on the photo are getting the horizon straight, and also shooting at either late or early in the day (which this could have been).
Maybe the strongest thing to be done here would be to minimize the foreground elements to a couple of nicer rock forms, then you can completely control their placement in the composition. I also think the form/shape created by the waves also has alot of potential.
Regards, Chris

Nice pattern, the rocks are very dramatic. If I may suggest, next time use a polaizer when including sky otherwise it might come out a little washed. Say hi to the Golden State. Go Bears!
