Sorry for my delay on this one-no idea why I missed it.
You did very well by focusing on the light as it is the most important element. I'm not sure wether the patterns in the snow would have come out that clearly by focusing differently.

Hi Marc,
The subtleties in this shot are fantastic. Specifically the patch of ligth, and the room you gave it in the composition, making the tree only a peripheral subject. Very well done!

Hi Sameh, thanks for your honest comment, it is well appreciated! As to the tree, I intended for the primary focus of this shot to be the light falling on the new snow with the tree providing a grounding reference for that shot. In that context, including the entire tree was not important. But, with all that said, I had also considered posting an alternate shot that included the entire tree and focuses on the tree as the main element, rather than the light on snow. Perhaps I will post that soon.
