That must be it. No hoarfrost here, not cold enough. Just powdery snow that turns to slush.

hello michael, no, i didn't something special with my winter trees. it just was a wonderful winter day, very cold, with a lot of fog. so the trees were covered with hoarfrost. the only thing i do sometimes is to play around with contrast and saturation. i like this vignetting effect. and i prefer this special toning... thanks so much for your interest kindest regards, ekkehard [and please excuse my horrible english]

Ekkehard:
I've been driving around for a while now in the winter snow on the lookout for trees and noticed that none of ours over here in Kansas have the snow or ice actually frozen on the tree. Strong winds must blow it all off...
How does that work? Are you just blessed with the scenery or are you doing something special?

You have been able to capture depth in a snow environment. It is hard to do and I very much admire this photo. Congratulations on both technical and aesthetic qualities.

Your winter shots continue to impress. I think you have built a strong series of these winter tree shots, perhaps time to stack nine of them in a 3x3 grid?
