About This panorama lacks the additional two shots (one up for zenith, one down for nadir) that would make it truly spherical. You'll notice the topmost branches of the central tree are not fully shown. I would normally crop away the empty foreground for a plane image version of such a panorama, but have left it this time. You can tell a truly spherical panorama by the fact that the width is always exactly twice the height (corresponding to 360 degrees and 180 degrees respectively). The shallow relative height here is a giveaway that the overhead/underfoot coverage is incomplete.

Dear Mary, I am overwhelmed... no less than 12 comments in a single series all from you, all very encouraging. Thank you SO much. I hope that you will find more time for your own photography. You MUST try the panorama function, able to upload images 1200 pixels by a maximum of 600 pixels! It came just too late for this one, alas...

I just noticed your four pictures in the comment area. Your collage of the four looks great as is.

I learned something today about panoramas, Roger. I didn't know about the dimensions as you explained them. Lovely shot showing the colourful area.

Riny, you asked for my E-mail address, and I gave it in a reply to your comment. You were going to send me some photos from Holland, I think... that would be lovely!

Thanks Roger. If you knew me better you would know that I'm not the type of person who likes to stir things up. It sounds like you understood my intent, but the admin didn't. I'm just honestly baffled at all the comments here and there about leaving. Maybe it's been an ongoing thing, but it seems rampant in the last couple of months. Like I said, I enjoy this site SO much, and especially because of getting to know people like you and sharing photos and comments. It's a breath of fresh air in a busy life. So I guess I will just keep on wondering....! :)

Hi Roger,

That's really an awesome fish eye perspective. The cropping of the trees adds a level of interest to me. This creates a Lord of the Rings (Ents) feeling to me. wonderful fall colors, and nice to have that photographers in the pciture =)

best wishes,
Thilo

Dear Susie, you asked (twice) in the forums why so many people were leaving. Your entire forum topics (with any replies they it had attracted) have been deleted. When I attempted to reach them to reply, there was nothing there. Let's be clear, it is the absolute right of the moderator/administrator to delete anything and everything they don't want displayed on the Usefilm site. But the wise, responsible and restrained use of this ultimate privilege is generally considered to be advisable for a web community. It's a bit like the hydrogen bomb. Use it, and you may get mutually self-assured destruction. I myself have so annoyed administration that I have been threatened with expulsion from Usefilm, something that appalled me because I try so hard to be helpful and encouraging to people in my comments and forum participation. But my attempts to remind the administrators of their commitments and to encourage them to keep them were seen as 'sniping.' Very judgemental and critical of people who were doing their best out of a sprit of service and not for profit. That really wasn't my intention, of course, but that's how it was perceived. I am already losing count of those who have told me they are leaving (or have left) and who urge me to do the same. I shall probably stay until I am thrown out. I have nothing but goodwill for those who created and run this site. I just wish they would learn to make only commitments they can keep. Anything else just invites frustation in those like me who live in a world where keeping commitments is the single most important thing in life. Enough!

Don't worry, John, I got the properly formatted message in the mail notification of your comment. I hadn't seen the point of it until then, but as soon as I saw it I had to smile. Much appreciated!

Awww that bites Roger. The machine lost my formatting. I had made my comment circular for you in honor of your fisheye art. JB

Thanks for showing us the original 'fisheye' perspectives, Roger. We can now appreciate, just how much hard work and effort, you've put into the originals, to create your wonderful stitched panorama. Superb.

My forelocks (what's left of 'em) are being tugged, at the moment, in the direction of Japan!!

Best Regards
Colin.

Really neat shot Roger, all of the elements really place nicely with each other. I also like that you included the photographer on the left hand side. gives it a neat edge. Really nice detail and color! nice work!

Roger,

Nicely captured ! You keep showing us the beauty of Japan in a very unique way.

BTW, is this park near the town center of Shinjuku or it takes some time to get there.

Susie, very few people get the panorama bug, and of those that do, even fewer battle through the problems of stitching the images together. Here is what I started with...

It looks great to me Roger...I've never learned anything about fisheye or panoramas, so no critiques from me. I like how you can see all the people doing their own thing. Nice one.

Colin, I support your desire for better comments, it's just that you can't force people to stop being lazy! That's the reality we face... alas. Glad you liked this one!

Great motif for a pano, the tree spreading their branches so nicely. Perfect stitch, no seams visible.

Cheers

As it is, it's a wonderful, autumnally golden scene, Roger. No need for self-recrimination.

Excellent detail, colour and plenty of interest, with the central tree and the figures off-centre. I see you have taken a fellow photographer, to add the icing on the cake. 7.

Thanks for your forum contribution, Roger. Apparently I'm in a minority of one. By the replies, I see that laziness is to be accepted.

Regards
Colin

Hi Roger, this is a beauty. If I let my eye travel from left to right, the lines of the branches make me feel like i am on a slow, easy carousel. thanks for sharing this.
