The title is a virtual history lesson,dear snookums! CONGRATS FOR THE BIP! (sorry i could not attend the party as i missed this one previously)
i like the "bit to the left" color crop version,but i prefer the orig.B/W tone to keep the emphasis on the man's face...very good image,Paul.....ta ta and a few la la las,saucy gayle 7+

To begin with, I was wanting to use b/w as a way of compensating for the fact that the colour of the original film is deteriorating somewhat. It is quite nice like this with colour though, yes.

Here's a superb photo. I like your alternative square crop, but did you also consider aligning the lines with the frame, and putting the man a little to the left in the image? Maybe that's just too hyper-critical...

Ho tagliato l'immagine in un approssimativo quadrato e pare davvero funzionare cosė con meno spazio libero forse sprecato al di sopra della testa dell'uomo.
